Had the trike in for the clutch recall so i had them put the Avon Trike front tire on. Haven't had a chance to ride it yet,its still in the 30's here.So my question is for those who have this tire what are your good thoughts and bad thoughts,it looks a little strange with very little grooves for water to escape in the center of the tire. How is the performance in wet riding conditions?

I put the new version, Avon Cobra Chrome, on my '18 about three weeks ago. I too thought the same thing about wet weather traction. Have a few 000 miles on it now but all dry so can't say. From Avon's reputation I have confidence it will perform but it does look quite different from the stock Dunlops for sure.

Steve, I have ran Avon tires on my motorcycles for quite a few years and have the old version of Avon Trike tire on our trike. I like how their tires handle in wet or dry. The old Trike version and the new Chrome appear to have the same rain sipes.

We rode our trike pulling a trailer home from the Maggie Valley gathering last September in the rain almost the whole way. We didn't have a problem with the Avon Trike tire handling some pretty heavy rain.

Thanks guys i have used Avons lots of times on different two wheeler's but none that looked this different.

Do you know which Avon ? Is it the old style ,which says "TRIKE" on the sidewall. I have one now with just over 20,000 & still looks good. These have been discontinued. New style says "Cobra Chrome" They just came out & don't know of anyone with many miles on them to report yet. Based on the old style, I won't hesitate to put the new one as it is supposed to be improved over the old .

Then it is one of the original Avon Trike tires instead of the new Avon Chrome tire. I think you will like it after you get to ride on it awhile. That is the same tire Bill and I both have on our trikes.

The old version was an AV71. The new version is an AV91

They still have a dedicated trike tire in the Tri Glide/Gold Wing sizes. In the past the trike tires had a deeper groove depth for increased tread wear. Avon states it is improved in milage/wear & handling.

The new style is supposed to be even better & you get the rebate.

Avon trike tie

I have had the Avon tire on my front wheel for about five thousand miles. I'm very pleased.

The tire tracks great in rain as far as I'm concerned.

Additionally, you can run it at a higher air pressure that the stock tires. Look at the specs.

Wanted to get my Avon Trike Tire mounted the end of the month, as well as get a front and rear Brake Fluid Flush by the one local dealer. Called for an appointment this afternoon and was told by the Service Manager; can do on on the Brake Flushing, but no can do mounting of the Avon Tire. She said they only service tires bought through the Harley Supply Network. That's a real game changer for me!:(

I'd find another dealer or an independent to service my ride if I were you...

Next nearest dealer is about 62 mi south in Louisiana....will check anyway. Will have to check around in local area to see if anyone knows of any reliable and trustworthy independents. I'll finally get to know what's available in my area.

Good luck in your search. I got lucky and have a good independent about a mile and half out the road from me. He is the one who put me onto Avon tires back when I was still on two wheels. Been dealing with him and running them ever since.

Hey guys......thanks for the inspiration!:clapping:

This situation is the goose that gets me off my duff to find out what's nearby and worthwhile besides dealerships.

Local bike company...

I went through this exact same thing about a year or so ago. I had ordered an Avon Trike Tire and took it to the local HD dealer to get it mounted. They told me the same thing your dealer told you. I decided to try a local shop that sells several Japan bikes, 4 wheelers etc.

I took my front tire and wheel off the Trike, loaded it up and carried it to their shop. This was on a Chrome rim, and after they assured me they do chrome rims all the time, I agreed and let them do it and install my own Dyna Beads at the same time.

With me bringing the tire and rim to them, they were very reasonable. If I recall correctly they charged me 20-25 bucks and there was no damage to the Chrome wheel.

Huge Thanks!! More options to consider.:clapping: I'm beginning to get that big :) back!
