Avon front Trike tire started with 5/16" tread depth. I now have 15/64" tread depth at the most worn center. That took about 11,000 miles.

So if the wear continues the same, I will be down to 3/32" (which is usually where the wear bars are) in about another 22,000 miles...for 33,000 total.

Of course, that all depends on how I ride and what condition the roads are in.

These first 11,000 were a good mix of hot and cold, interstate and aggressive riding in the curves.

Thanks for the update Kevin.

That, to me, is unbelievable wear for a front tire. I will have to go with the standard Avon AV71 on my Freewheeler. I would be happy with a life of 20,000 miles.

Kevin, you stated in your travel post you were running it at 38psi?

I'm running the recommended 41 PSI cold.

Not only is it wearing well, but the grip this tire has is the best of any that I've tried.

btw, I've worn out a front OEM tire in a bit less than 8000 miles...lots of hard riding in the twisties. :) Typically with OEM fronts I was getting 12-16K out of them...combination of different riding.

Are you running 22 lbs. in the rear still ? Avon wants 41 lbs. in that tire ? Didn't know that. The Avon will be my next front tire after your real life testing. Thanks !

I'll say it again, HD should give you a new tri- glide every year to run the wheels off of, and maybe they would see the weak points under real world riding. Hell throw in a gas card too !

Yes, if I'm remembering correctly, they recommend 41.

In the OEM rears 20-21 is what I found worked best for me, in the Comfortreds rears I am still experimenting, but I started at 22 and am currently at 28 and so far, that is the best.

 That would be great if HD would do that....but I believe the chances are slim and none. We do have some special arrangements with them on some things we do, but nothing anywhere near that special!

Hmmm, I need to re-evaluate my Cobra Trike tire, I would be fine with that wear.

I've never tried a Cobra, could not tell you one is better than the other.

14,000 on my Avon Trike tire & looks like it will last another 14k. Still holds the road good dry or wet. Practically all 2 lane & US roads. So ya know it isn't all great pavement. That was the best I got on the Dunflop (14k) . 41 front 22 rear. Love this tire.

What size tire are you running with. I'm going to change to the Avon shortly. I've been getting around 15K on the standard Dunlops. I'll have just over 15K when I return from Sturgis.

I did a quick price comparison. Got to be sure you are specifying the trike tire - Avon p/n 90000025025. All these prices are for that tire:

Amazon $134.21

Walmart $128.95

J&P Cycle $128.99

Cycle Gear $135.80

Revzilla $135.80

Dennis Kirk $113.88

Note: Revzilla will price match and you earn Revzilla Bucks with each purchase. I've bought from them as well as Dennis Kirk. Both are good as are all the others. I'll be getting an Avon trike tire when I need a new tire for sure.

I'm replacing my Avon "trike" tire as we speak.... 12,000 miles (Goldwing / Roadsmith) very easy riding, 95% speed limit....type riding :xzqxz:

Discontinued

Looks like the AV71 is discontinued and replaced with

AV91 & AV92 Cobra Chrome Tire.

Surprise surprise, the price went up,also.

Anyone have this installed yet?

Installed August, no real wear showing after approx. 5K miles. on the Blue Ridge, Maggie Valley, Tail and Back of the Dragon, two trips to Kerrville on the Twisted Sisters. Riding both 1 and 2 up.

Very happy so far with Avon Chrome 91, on 2007 Honda Motor Trike. I would recommend it! :clapping:

Replacing it with another Avon trike tire?

Hi Bill,

Yes another Avon trike tire...:D

My problem will be that I'm paying an inflated price for the tire cause I'm having the front forks REbuilt.. (leaking very bad)... and as long as the front forks are being replaced I'm just going to have the fork guy just replace the tire/and front brakes at the same time.. (the wear bars were rearing their ugly heads) ...... I could replace that tire and brakes myself, but as long as the front end was apart I'm just letting him do it all at the same time, .....Heck it's only money! Social Security check will be paying for this anyway...

Ronnie

I got mine from my local Cycle Gear. They give a military/veterans discount & will mount & balance for $25 if you carry the wheel in, which is perfect if your having fork work done.

Also, check Avon for a rebate on the AV91. They have had 1 for over a year for $20 for 1 tire.
