Dont know if this subject has been brought up before....but I thought some of yall mighta tried AV.gas in your machines!
I been usin it for some 2-3 months and I've experienced easier staring,a nicer smell and somewhat smoother operation.
They tell me it doesnt atomize well at sea level since it's designed for aircraft.....I mix it 1 part to 3 parts 93 pump gas...with that nasty assed ethanol that is found in most all gas these days.
Curious to know if any yall tried it out!;)

I would be careful with what your mixing. Avgas is LL meaning low lead compounds. Avgas is not totally lead free as compared to regular gas.

I am far from an expert but this I do know. My husband is a private pilot and he will
use Av gas in his HD Softail sometimes. He has been riding motorcycles
and flying forever it seems. Has not had any problems.

the lowest octane u can use without pre-ign produces the most power,,
, high octane used when not required (ie 9.0 comp) burns too slow for that application pollutes and produces less power.

some av gas is 110 octane and is usually rated for higher altitude as well.

The majority of the engines out there, especially if stock don't need anything more than 91 octane pump gas. The 120 in my 06 Ultra is set at 10.5:1 and makes 122 hp & 135ft/lbs torque SAE on 91 octane pump gas.

The reason I went with AV gas is because I heard from numerous riders, including a few guys I ride with that it allows for a smoother running motor.

I've NEVER tried straight 92-93 pump gas since day one with this particular motor.

I was under the impression from the fellow>>For big bore cylinders and Harley Davidson engine components choose Hyperformance
that built the motor to use an octane booster.
She runs great with the AV.gas mixed 3-1 with 92-93 octane.

What else do you have besides compression??

Well buddy.....I dont ride NEARLY as much as you do so I guess you could say I have a trike that goes pretty damn good on short bursts....it's my tavern to tavern hot rod and I'm real happy with how she performs:cool:

Mick.....I like the fact that AV.gas has some lead,it stores for a long time compared to the piss you buy from the local petro station with ethanol in it.

Sounds like your motor is quite abit more sophisticated that my shovel/evo headed contraption:D
I've never dyno'd it or spent a great deal of time tuning 'er to a razor sharp tune.....I love the way she Hauls ass,and has been damn near maintenance free....for the exception of adjusting the push-rods once in 3000 miles.....she's pretty much settled in.
My little 106 is probobly capable of 100-105 horse power should I take the additional time to fiddle around with the ignition(DYNA 2000i)with a laptop.

Ok I have used av gas in my race cars for yrs with no problems. Now for motorcycle use have done that too. The mechanic at the airport where I buy mine from, its a small airport says that the av gas they use for small single and double engine planes so they don't need the high octane, thiers is 100 octane with some good additives to keep the fuel fresh for a long time and it is low lead. the additves also help keep the fuel system clean. the gas is more refined than the crap at the pumps today. as the mechanic said to me you just can't pull over and park the plane on a cloud to change a fuel filter.

I mix 104 unleaded racing gas in my 09 triglide one gal of the 104 unleaded to five gal of 93 sunoco unleaded. The trike runs cooler, stronger, no pinging on 90 plus hot days running hard acceleration on the interstate.

Your compression must be up there pretty good if Randy said to run octane booster, if he said you need it you sure do.

I was just curious and not trying to be smart. My engine has been modified and it goes quite well in short bursts and doesn't have that high of compression and the way I travel using aviation fuel is out of the question. Mine doesn't run like a raped ape but it sure purrs along nice at 75/80 mph on the super slabs when my bride and I travel.

.....Oh well.

At any rate for the poster who asked how much is AV.Gas per gallon
.....heh heh....how's 5.79 per gallon getcha!!:AGGHH:
for as much as I ride these days,I dont bitch too much about the cost.
Vertigo issues, which took me off 2 wheels make life just about as difficult on 3 wheels.
I never know when I'll get a case of "spinnin like a top".....and there seems to be no cure for it,I've try'd damn near everything in the book to remedy it.....nothing has worked so far.

Sorry for the rant....just thought I'd kick that out there.

Every once in a while I have a vertigo issue and that is when my allergies are acting up. I take weekly shots. Once I get through the allergy season I am OK.

My friend and i have a 1972 Norton we have restored and we run it on a mixture of 20% AVgas. It runs much better and cooler this way.It is a stone stock Norton from the 70's.We have also found a station in Orem Ut that has one pump that is not putting out Ethanol and that is what we mix with the AVgas. As he is a pilot he has ready access to the AVgas. We have not tried a racing fuel mixture but that might be interesting.
