Another Trike Newbie

Hi Folks,

Although I have been riding for 45 years, I have never ridden a trike although I did have a sidecar on a Goldwing for a few years. We've had 3 different wings over the years and my wife and I have ridden in 49 states and 7 provinces. We are currently riding a '99 Wing with about 90,000 miles.

My problem is that I'm 66 years old and have had 2 bouts with cancer and just don't have the strength anymore to keep a fully loaded tourer upright if I lean just a little too far when we stop.

I'm looking into adding an Insta Trike and looking forward to comments and suggestions from the group.

Personally I would convert your wing to a trike with a conversion unit as you would like the ride and handling far better.

Welcome Bob. Try and find some test rides out there. You might find you like the feel of 3 at all times. There are a counterle people with those instant wheel things that seem happy also.

Welcome from Cayce SC . I seem to have the same reason you do for going to three. Of all bolt on wheels all are about the same, like another said if you can go full trike it is much better JMHO

Just my opinion: If you are currently happy with the GW, I'd have it triked. I would assuredly recommend test riding any setup you are considering if at all possible. The ride home on my Hannigan trike the day I picked it up was a complete let down. I hated the ride, I hated the handling, I just simply hated everything about it. I had been riding two wheels since 1958 and going to a trike was 100 percent outta whack with everything I had ever learned. Five days later I was riding the Natchez Trace with friends. Those five days and the ride down and back up the trace turned me around completely. I simply love the trike, the way it rides, the way it corners like it's on rails and (this is the wimpy side of myself) gravel parking lots are no longer a worry . I also test rode a Can-Am Spyder and I did like it. But my Venture was paid for so having it triked was the least costly route. I do wish I could test ride a Stallion. That looks like a great machine.
