Another newby from Texas

Hi Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a former motorcyclist who on Oct 18 2009, at 70 MPH hit a deer. At that time, I was three days short of my 71st birthday so I got to spend it in the hospital. <br />

I have healed somewhat so I love to ride, but my son and I figured a trike would be easier on my rather old legs. Last week, I bought a 2006 Goldwing 1800 with the Champion trike kit.<br />
<br />
However, I have discovered one major thing. I need easier steering. I am evaluating different rake kits as I rode about 150 miles yesterday and my shoulders were on fire. When I hit the deer I broke my shoulder and it did not go back into place properly. May have to have that shoulder replaced.<br />

For those of you that have raked you trike what kit did you use and your comments about them will be appreciated. <br />

Here is a photo of my new love and one of my helmet that I was wearing when I went down.

That helmet is now shown on the Shoei Hall of Fame. As you can see from the photo I would not be typing this if I were not wearing a full face helmet.<br />

Welcome Comanche. Glad you are riding again. I would suggest the Champion rake kit only because you have the champion conversion. I have it on my daughters 1500 GW and it is great.

Comanche, you are truely blessed to be alive! and I like the look of your new trike. Once you get that steering improved, you will love triking! I also have a Champion kit and the Champion EZSteer rake. It made a world of difference for me and I highly recommend it!

I live in Copperas Cove. We are just west of Fort Hood and 60 miles north of Austin. My road name Comanche is because I used to own and fly a Piper Comanche airplane.<br />

Is Richard Torres still the Haltom City city manager? He was our city manager before going there. He was a good one.

Not sure if Torres is still there or not. I got married & moved out to the country a couple years ago. I still work in Haltom City, but I don't keep up with the gov't. Think they might have run him off with that crooked judge.

The weather's starting to improve over here so OH will be coming out of hibernation and the grumpy old nag should be on here soon. That's when this place will go rapidly down hill.

Eh welcome to triketalk. I have a 1989 GW and have a California sidecar ez steer and its great. Its like adding power steering.

For the younger group at one time they sold cars with manual steering and column stick shifts, AM radio's were optional along with the AC. and auto trans.

About power steering, I ordered a 5.5 degree trail reduction kit and will have that installed sometime next week. Rode a friends raked trike yesterday around a parking lot and the handling difference between his and mine is signigicant. He has the 4.5 degree so mine should turn a bit easier.
