We have a 2012 Honda Goldwing, California Side Car Trike with 7,400 miles. I am the second owner purchasing June, 2017 after seeing an advertisement on this forum. I bought it from the original owner who purchased it new and had it triked. I inspect the trike a couple of times a year checking fluids, lug nuts, etc. While inspecting this week I noticed the front tire is really getting worn. The ridge which goes all the way around the center of the tire is very thin. I check the air pressure monthly and have only had to air one time. My question is this type of wear normal? What should I replace it with? The miles on the bike are from two caring older owners who haven't been particularly hard on the trike. Opinions and suggestions are welcome.

Thank You;

Hi Bill,

There is a Trike Talk forum dedicated to nothing but tires, wheels, brakes and front ends.

Hopefully, this thread will help provide you some useful information.

Here is the link to connect you there directly:

I use an Avon Trike tire and enjoy the performance from the tire. I replace the tire at about 9 to 10 K miles.

1. you didn't state what tire you have now and what pressure you are running. That will help us determine if this wear is unusual. Also, I notice you are in Ky. Do you routinely ride on curvy roads riding two-up?

2. There are three primary tires used by GW trike riders: Michelin MPA and Battleax BT-45. Both are rear sport bike tires, bias ply and normally use 40-42 psi. The third choice is the Avon Cobra Trike front tire and it is a radial. I think the Avon gives better ride and handling. I live and ride in the Arkansas twisties and routinely get 10-13 k miles per tire. Flatlanders do much better but then I'm probably having more fun. :)

Anyway, hope this helps. If you can give us some more info maybe we can give you better info.

Good stuff Mike, thanks, I've probably read most, but a refresher. I'm a Cobra user now, but not so sure I'll repeat, might go with the MPA since I've been there, done that with BT45 (rear) and Cobra. Can't complain about the BT45, it's less dollars, probably more miles, and I can't feel much difference in the ride in that and the Cobra.

Bridgestone has the new Battlecruise H50 now & I just found it for $109 + free shipping & Bridgestone has a $30 rebate till the end of the month(I Believe)

$79 for a front tire for my Freewheeler is an attractive price.
