Yesterday I went for a ride, stopped after a couple of blocks and put my sweatshirt on, it was a little cool. When I took off again, after I noticed my oil light was on, which it wasn't when I first took off. I turned around and went home and checked my oil and it was good, looked at other things for leaks etc etc, nothing. Then I started it back up and no red light on dash so I went for my ride and light never did come again.

Ok guys and experts on here, what would cause this light to come on??

Could have been a quick glitch in the system
If it does this again I would check pressure with a master gauge, if all is well replace the oil light switch

Harley has updated the switch to a new and better switch, I replaced mine on my 17 Freewheeler for that problem

Agree with Jack. Friend and I both had 2018 TGs and had oil light come on which was caused by defective oil pressure switch. Pretty sure that is the culprit. Unlikely imo there could be an actual problem with the oil pump or perhaps some obstruction that would then clear itself.

Had this exact thing happen with my 2017 Road King. Probably because I was in a hurry. After that, I learned to take a breath or two between turning the ignition on, and hitting the start button.

Never happened again.

You can build your own oil pressure master gauge with a grease gun hose and a good pressure gauge, or you can get a master gauge kit cheap on Amazon and @ Harbor Freight

I checked the code today, the sensor as Jack said, cleared it and have ridden it and no more codes, the harley dealer confirmed the sensor also, buy a new one which is around $40 for it, have seen cheaper ones as they say HD stands for high dollar. I rode today with no light coming on, checked for code when I got home and no code.

I'm thinking when I started it the second time I didn't wait for the dash lights to go as I usually do and they might be why the oil light came on, not sure about this, but have waited for lights to go out before starting the trike, just a thought is all, the dealer said this could be also for not waiting for lights to go out, just a guess on his part, so far everything is good. I might shop around for a sensor so I have one on hand not sure I want to spend $40 on the harley one, have seen them around $26 and $35 dollars depends where you get it.

Thanks Jack for the part number

I had it happen on my 2019 when I was in a hurry and did not let the software boot up and let the gauges do their dance. Shut it down as I thought there was an issue. Restarted letting the gauges do there dance and all was well. Chalked it up to a glitch in the system. Have not had any issues since, no codes either.

The oil switch looks very similar to the one GM uses on its car engines, Harley does not manufacture its switches, they source then else where, that said $25-$48 dollars gets you a new switch from a vendor of your choosing

Well I haven't had the light come again so I feel pretty good about that, as some posted not letting the dash lights do their thing I guess, haven't had any codes like the first time either.

Was at the dealer today and I bought the oil pressure switch to have on hand, their last one and other dealers didn't have any either so I don't if they don't order it and they have been selling them and installing, whatever, I have it in case and if I don't use then ok, I'm out $40.

P.S. Thanks for all the replies, that what I like about this forum, ask questions and get straight answers

I have to ask....if your oil light was on, why didnt you pull over and shut it down immediatly and check things? Why ride it home first?
Like I said I was only 2 blocks or so from home and so I drove it home, if motor started making noise then I would shut it down but it sounded good, if it blew up in 2 blocks then I would rebuilt or replace motor, no problem.
