Currently using a 21” metzler front tire on performance machine wheels, need to replace, need recommendations on a new replacement from those of you with experience running different brands on your trike, thank you

Haven’t had any problems out of the metzler, has only lasted 9 or 10 thousand miles, but has rode and handled well, have no problem going back with that but just wondering what else is out there, maybe Michelin ?

I ride year round. In the Winter when theres cold rain coming down I'll dink around with the No Mar tire machine. I can test different tires and ride down the mountain 3.5 miles and theres a 4 lane. All the name brand tires work well plus or minus. Ive setteled on the Dunlop American Elite. I knew before buying a trike the front tires will wear rapidly. Now tire prices are akin to the market price of lobster and whatever you choose buy a second set. Youll never see that price again.

So, I ended up going with a Michelin commander III 21” front tire and first Impressions are great, did about a 350 mile round trip to brushy mountain prison and it rode and drove great, seemed more planted to the road and very happy, so far seems much better than the metzler I had. Even though it is the same size it looks to be a beefier tire, so far I highly recommend

Can you post a picture of the wheel on the trike? What size is the tire ? That sounds pretty Cool

Dan, it’s 21” 120/70, I’ll try to get a picture on here tomorrow, they also advertise it has a higher mileage tire, we’ll see about that

Also, the local Indy shop where I bought it said he recommended the Michelin over the metzler, he said the only thing he didn’t like about it was that they thought a lot of it…lol, tire was 257.00 which was about what I saw online and at j and p cycles. Taxes, disposal fees and mounting, out the door was 320.00

Front tire

:) NOT to hi-jack the thread, but how many of you on the older trikes are running

a 21” up front? Been toying with that idea for some time!

Thanks for any input……..

Ran mine with a 21” front for about 3 years, it’s different from the stock bigger tire, not any better or worse, just different, but after I went a few miles down the rode never really thought of it again. ride quality definitely changed for the worse, but that was because of the low profile rears, fixed that with a set of pro action shocks from dk customs., but I think it makes it look a whole lot better.
