2016 FLRT Trike 103 problem with heat. Back of leg. Right side

Any suggestions? Can’t afford a lot of money. The bike broke me.

The heat in that area is from the exhaust, in particular the catalytic converter.

The twin cam 103 also runs lean from the factory. Removing the CAT may be the most cost effective option, but you would most likely need to have it tuned.

A forum member & sponser here, Kevin of DK Custom Products, has done extensive research on heat & it's affects on the HD motor. There is an excellent write up/report on their website.

This is copied and pasted from the link above. These extensions do help, but mostly I like the positioning of my feet with these on my 2015 Freewheeler. I bit the bullet and spent the money for new mufflers, dual header, tuner, high flow air cleaner and Love Jugs so that I can fully enjoy riding without burning my right leg. ***Another option for Lowering Felt Heat for the Rider

is to use Floorboard Extensions. Not only do these get your feet and legs a bit further away from the engine, they are amazingly more comfortable for the positioning of the Rider.​

Ron'...........Before you brake the bank any more then you already have.......Try the floor board extensions ''First''; From DK Customs a sponsor there at Trike- Talk.......

That might be all you need.....

Try an xied set at 50% if you don't have a tuner already in use. This will enrich the fuel cooling the engine a bit.

DK has done the legwork on how to cool that motor down.So it's a combination of things.The TC103 is a notoriously hot motor.My 14 Dyna is/ was a rolling turkey cooker.A lady I took riding complained of the heat on her right boot.The cat is right below her foot peg.I got one of those clamp on heat shields and it worked like a charm.Rogue is one outfit that makes them but there are others.I think it was under $20 bucks.

I also agree with adding the Extensions, because after installing a set I now have much need relief from the heat on my right lower leg, ankle and inside right foot.

Although money is tight, your engine will benefit by lowering it's temperature also. So if you can phase in over time (especially for dog days of summer), the installation of the additional two items below from DK Custom:

• Touring Tank Lifts

• Cooling Deflector Wings

These and the Footboard Extensios will help increase your comfort and provide some much needed cooling to the trike.

I have love jugs, true duals, air catchers behind the jugs, still a tad warm, and i wrapped the rear pipe, when i get time i will put more wrap on it, it do help, thats me, best to ya. I ll double or triple wrap it, and put the chrome cover back over it, no sweat. More is better. Oh i have a power commander also.

I had the same problem on mine - I made a 3/4 round heat shield out of a car / truck echo tip - left it long enough to run all the way back to the rear body - Big change - You can also add another smaller one on the vertical part - I also made 1- 1/2 rear spacer plates for the rear floor board to help the heat off the passenger foot an ankle
