2008 GL1800 Motor Trike tranny rebuild

As you can see I have a 2008 gl1800. 2nd gear started grinding and there were metal flakes in the oil when we checked. I left the trike with my mechanic for repairs.
I know the engine has to be removed to repair the transmission but what I don't know is how many hours you guys think it should take a trained mechanic to disassemble the bike, do the repairs, and put the whole thing back together again.
Any input would be appreciated. I'm trying to get an estimate of how much sticker shock I should prepare myself for when I get the repair bill.
Thanks,
Tim

Depends on if Mother Honda will help if its still in warranty and if the dealer will work on your trike..... if an independent dealer grab your ankles and walk it off..... :D

+1 to previous two Posts.
4000-5500 depending on prevailing Labor Rate and how much new is needed on Internals.
Pick the Shop & Tech carefully. Gonna be a jagged pill to swallow monetarily any way ya look at it. Long as it's done right by a competent Tech with no short-cutting and they stand behing it, at least it won't come with regret and larger headaches on top of the big bucks.

I feel for you.
I have the dreaded non existent "ghost shift " with my bike.
Its happened to me 2 or 3 times in 2 years.
Accelerating hard in 4th gear and boom. Pops down to 3rd.
That and that alone was the reason I tried to have my warranty extended.
Now as I may be in your shoes at some future date.
Im starting a repair emergency fund.
Beginning with the $1000 plus refund from my local dealer after Honda refused to cooperate extending my warranty.
I will be adding a grand a year up to 5K as long as I own the trike.
Or pass on,;) which ever comes 1st.
