Good afternoon friends. I am curious if anyone knows if I can get a fuel guage. My girlfriend has her trike. With zero knowledge of fuel level. Other than shaking the trike to hear fuel. I don’t want her running out of fuel.

If fuel guage isn’t available. What would be the mileage guesstimate for fuel??

Welcome to Trike Talk
We need to know what kind of trike it is, carbed or injected, how big is the tank etc to help you out. I dunno of any gauge you could set up without seeing the tank.

I don't know of a fuel gauge for a VTX 1300.
But before fuel gauges I would reset the trip-o-meter when fueling then run until you hit reserve.
Make note of that mileage. Now you know how far you can go before fueling.

Lots of chatter regarding VTX in need of a fuel gauge. Here is one:

It says this sending unit installs from the top. I don't know how that works and would call Randakk's and ask.

The sending unit changes resistance as the float moves up or down and would best be connected to an Acewell multifunction gauge like this one (they have a bunch if you look at the Randakk site using Acewell as a search term). I didn't see any single function gauges (like fuel gauge) as all were multi-function.

My experience is with the gas gauge on vintage Kawasaki motorcycles and they had a float that mounted from the bottom of the tank and was on a pivot arm that changed resistance. They connected via two wires to a factory gas gauge and adjusting one to read accurately took time and skill as the float thing had to be removed from the bottom of the tank. Fill a 5 gallon tank with 2 1/2 gallons. Check gauge and then bend the arm up or down to get the proper amount of resistance going to the gauge.

The other bit on Randakk's page is a tee into the fuel line and a clear tube next to the tank and it would tell you how much fuel was in the tank. I don't know why but it doesn't seem like a great idea.

Doesnt that bike have a on/off/reserve selector for fuel? My 1800 does not due to FI. Pretty sure yours did.

Wont guarantee not running out of fuel, but will help. Just remember to take it off 'reserve' and put it back to 'on' if you do have to use it. ;)
