2006 Sporster/Frankenstein coversion project

Nice! It will mean so much to Rena to have been such a big part of this build :)

It's looking like I'll be taking wifes 2007 1200 LOW over for Frankenstein install this week.
A thread elsewhere sure gave a good solution to the no-parking brake problem with using the velcro strap!
I noted your brief comment on gearing. I've been wondering about this as I don't want to get into that. After you get her all done and tested please make a few more comments about it.
Not sure what Sportster model you started with, but I'm wondering how much height difference you had after install.? Higher or lower? I'm curious how it will change wifes LOW ground clearance? I know the rake kit is determined by front wheel size. She has a 19" but shorter forks.

Kindaoldtriker,
It's a 2006 1200 Low, probably the same as yours. The front end is a little lower, but I never checked it before we started. I think it sets pretty level.

I will do some checking when its done.

OK, Yes, probably exact same stance as ours to begin with. I actually put 1" lowering blocks on rear shocks of hers when she got it and a NIGHTSTER seat to lower even a bit more. Now they have even some lower and more narrow seats in last couple years models! my wife is pretty short so I don't mind if lower but don't really want any higher. But, I guess there is no worry about falling over if it is! :)

Also, does she have any troubles pushing it backwards now?

Let us know about the gearing also.

No I didnt look at that one. Never realized they made one like the Frankenstien until after we did this one.

Check the rear view of champion vs Frankenstein rear axel and im pretty sure that will sway you to the Frankie. I would also reccomend not using the short shot exhaust from frankenstein, very loud and point directly at rear axel which will be black with exhaust crud in a short time. I use the V&H bigshots ,see pic, and i beleive they have them for sporty also.

Charlie,
What did you use for baffle's in those pipes? the ones that came with them?

well, wife won't care if they are loud. The ones one her Sportster are loud now! She'd like even louder.
We like the look of the shorties and they are priced not too bad w/ the kit. I see there could be some black behind them. I had V&H Similar on my FatBoy and got some blackening but it washed off fairly easy. I have swept pipes similar on my Victory JACKPOT, nice, but the V&H swept pipes are quite a bit more than the shorties.
We did compare the width and wide-open spaces on rear of Champion. We are sticking with the Frankenstein. It just looks nicer, and Frankly, with my wife the smaller the better.
Izski326, I can't tell from your before pics but did you go from stock cleaner/pipes to the shorties? If so did you remap? we are going from SE cleaner/custom slip-ons that were remapped so I'm thinking we won't have a problem or need to remap. How about you?
We ARE thinking of getting the 15" x 10" tires instead of the regular 15" x 8" tires. Any thoughts on that?

Our 2006 is not fuel injected, just the old fashion caburator. Might have to re-jet it, but won't know that for a while.
I like the looks of the wider tire. Do they make a fender for them? We started out trying to go as cheap as possible, so we just got the kit the way it comes.

Larry, I used the baffels that came with them and added a plug/restrictor to them simular to the quiet baffels that I fabricated. DK Customs sells an add on that is supposed to do the same thing.

OK,
Not sure about the fender. My installer is checking into it today. I can't really tell from their fender chart? The one with the kit is a 11" fender I believe? so it MIGHT be ok, but you know, today I checked my HD TriGlide wheels and they are 15" x 8" and I tell you, they look big ENOUGH for a Sportster, so I'll probably just save the money.

News Flash: Just got this note from Frankenstein:

To upgrade to the 15” x 10” style 186 wheels with 265/50/15 tires is an additional $100.00

To upgrade to the 12 ¾” fender is an additional $70.00

The short 11” fender that come standard with the kit will not work with the 15” x 10” wheels.

We just got the paint back two days ago,!finally! should have it back together by the end of the week. Then we will get some good pictures. The weather turned bad now, so wont be able to drive it untill march or so.

Larry, that turned out beautifully, and Rena is going to love it!!!! Way to go!!!!

BEAUTIOUS!
Very Nice!
I notice the chrome oil cover and side cover. When My wife sold her 1996 Hugger for the new 2007 Low she decided she didn't want the chrome so we ordered the factory painted matching covers from Harley They were cheaper than the chrome! I don't know if they still do it because I can't find the chart in the HD parts catalog anymore? But it looks real nice and you rarely see it on bikes. I think it will really set off the trike.

I notice you have same front wheel as ours. How is handling with the triple tree offset now?
Also, how do those V&H shorties Sound? My wife says, the louder the better! :>)
I also see same roll bar. I'm wondering if I should remove it for looks now? HOPEFULLY it won't be needed now!!!:>)My wife can't reach it for foot rests unless I install some that run back quite a bit! :>)

BTW, just today I called my builder to see about the hold-up with the fender painting. It's been WEEKS waiting for the painter to paint 2 fenders. The builder says he couldn't match the 2007 Yellow Pearl with PPG or anyone so he had to finally order the paint from Ma Harley! Said it will be in this week. Builder says it was $300!!!! But, I'm pretty sure he is making pretty good profit still!

I just notice the color change when I was showing my wife. Are those HD colors?

I got a nice quick-disconnect luggage rack for my wife now to go with the trike kit since she'll be riding a lot by herself. It goes behind a solo seat, doesn't extend out back like most do. She has a Nightster solo seat and it will be real nice with hers. HD part 53494-04 on page 78 of the new book.

Its still the original Pearle White which is HD expensive paint. The black was changed to Purple, not HD color. The seat is a Mustang Solo seat. She wants to get a rack like you mentioned.
The shorty Mufflers are really Loud. We want to get something a little quieter and that turn down so they wont blacken the rear end.
