On another forum (HD forums) people have been having problems with the new update where they are loosing their maps. Have said they went back to the .4 download to get them back? Of course some have no problems everything worked fine. Do you have the maps and did you go from .5 or .4 to the 18.1?

I went from 1.17.5 (special update direct from factory delivery June 2014) to 1.18.1

Maps were still there when I fired it up.

I used a 8 GB high speed USB memory stick with only the 2 files Harley provides on the card.

What changes are there? What does it FIX?
I may not want them. I know when I update computer programs I usually don't like the changes or it screws something else up.

That's one reason I don't update my Zumo or my cars GPS. All the roads are still there and it's been completely reliable for me for years and gets me to where I want to go - if it ain't broke - don't fix it. :D

Well it looks like they are getting more info for the people that are having problems.

If you have NAV software 9.10.14.306105 the update will not work you will loose your maps. If you have Software 9.10.14.297212 it will work with no problems.

From what was posted Harley is aware of the problem and is working on a fix that will work.

Don't know if this helps anyone or not? I am not upgrading just yet.

Many times if you don't keep upgraded, the upgrade that comes out with all the changes you want on your electronics won't work because they are built to use part of the previous updates. When you want all the past updates, they may not be available. Just something to keep in mind......

I noticed last night after installing the new download that it fixed the media problem when restarting the trike. If I was riding and listening to MP3's and shut off the trike, when I restarted it would revert to the radio and you would have to go back into the menu and select the media. Now it seems to stay where you last had it set.

My car had the same problem and it always started with the first track on the CD no matter what track I was on before shutting it off - 3rd or 50th. That is really annoying especially if you're on one of the higher tracks. I bet I have some songs I've never heard yet. :)

My infotainment unit froze up on me twice. Dealer had to fix it the first time, fixing it the second time all I did was turn the bike off and then on again. Second time just the music stayed on but the first time everything froze.

Used NAV today to find a lunch spot 40 miles away. Worked great. No problems with mine. :D

I don't have a problem going from point A to point B, but have a terrible time entering 20 or 30 destinations which I do for all my vacations. I do not do waypoints which is another big problem. Hell, just entering and saving an address is a hit or miss thing on my unit. I'm not talking about POI's.

I can enter 20 destinations in about 10 minutes on my Zumo, but only 4 or 5, if I'm lucky, on the H-D unit. Besides you have to sit out in the rain or in the burning sun to enter your destination(s) on the H-D unit not in a cozy motel room. It is very difficult and time consuming to save a location that doesn't have an address, like a point on a highway (ABC point getters will know what I'm talking about there). I would also like a QWERTY keyboard.

Other then those gripes, it's a good unit. :D

:Agree:There is something to be said about siting in a nice cozy hotel room while making changes in your GPS. I've done just this very thing on several trips, decided I wanted to see some other places the next day. So I just fire up the lap top and make a new route, then upload it into my Zumo, next morning put the Zumo in the mount and ride.

I just enter the new route directly to the Zumo. That way I don't have to bring along another electronic gadget. :D

Just sitting in the hot sun (bright sun and 95*) and trying to see the display was more then I wanted to bear. Waited until sundown to do it.

Extremely glad I kept the Zumo. It will be my go to GPS on all my future trips.

Wish I could mount it to my fairing like I did on the 2012.

Be nice if you could down load it to the trike

Page 101 of the Boom manual describes how you can do pre route planning and save to a USB device for import. These are .gpx files. Pretty standard stuff in the GPS world.
You can export out and import in files to our unit.

Pretty easy IMO to do some pre trip planning on-line and save a bunch of files to a USB memory stick. Harley Davidson rideplanner or garmin basecamp

You can also go to GPS coordinates instead of typing in an address.

I am curious .... If you are using garmin basecamp .... have you even tried to import that .gpx file into the harley unit?

I ain't saying it is perfect .... but I believe it can do more than you think.ThumbUp

YES I will start to dwell into it myself as I am an accomplished geocacher and have been using handheld GPS units for a very long time.

Lets figure this out.

Ask my dealership today about infotainment upgrade and download and they said Harley hasn't come up with any yet ! I said well that is strange because people on this site and others have already downloaded a newer version. Service manager said well it would nice if Harley told us about it , I replied well maybe you should check the website instead of being behind the times waiting on Harley. Now I know why they can't solve many of my problems or complaints !

My dealer is the same way. I bring copies of stuff I read on the forum and they just tell me they can't do anything until the home office tells them they can do it.

There are time you come across something that you would never know about until you actually arrive at a location. And I don't want to carry a laptop computer around on vacation so I can plan a route and then download it to an USB drive and then download it to my bike.

I just do what I've always done with my Zumo. I enter all my destinations (usually around 30 to 40) at home. I can bring the Zumo into my motel and do any additional route planning in the comfort of the room.....not sitting out in the rain or heat.

Agree. The Harley gps is no different than any other INSTALLED vehicle gps. I have a portable nuvi that I use in conjunction with my vehicle INSTALLED units. I can't bring the auto gps units into my room. LOL

YES Something is up! 1.18.1 is not available for download. I guess too many people had issues. Again .... I was going from 1.17.5 (never released on-line) and had no issues.

"Date Released: 08/21/2014

The 1.18.1 has been taken off HD web site. Latest info from Harley is that there will be a new update released in late October. Maybe they will get every thing worked out by then?

You really think so??????

I sure hope you're right, but I don't think they will ever fix the problems I have with mine.

I noticed last night after installing the new download that it fixed the media problem when restarting the trike. If I was riding and listening to MP3's and shut off the trike, when I restarted it would revert to the radio and you would have to go back into the menu and select the media. Now it seems to stay where you last had it set.

Not that lucky. I did the firmware update and still my radio will start up in radio not media where I left off and sometimes it does come up in media. Aggravating! I think what is causing this is that sometimes the radio reads the USB drive quicker and if it has read it quick enough it will come back on where you left off.

I do use an ultra high speed USB flash drive. I let everything come up and hit AGREE .... and my last song is playing again .... before starting. I'm very happy with 1.18.1 and it is very stable so far.

Sometime the radio will be first on and sometimes the media will be first on. No rhyme or reason.
I only listen to pre recorded music on thumb drives or SD cards so it's always on media. I
f I listen to the radio it is only "talk" radio I listen to. Can stand the crap they call music now days. :D ThumbUp

GaryD, I too like to listen to my thumb drive more than the radio. Not sure if it's coincidence or not, but it seems that if I start the bike before the music starts then it goes to the radio, but if I wait until the music starts it will stay with the thumb drive.

Never really noticed. I'll have to see if that works for me too.
