TINTED CAR WINDOWS

I don`t get it......
You don't?
So you've never approached an intersection and can't see where the drivers of cars are looking and whether they are going to pull out in front of you?
Last i read there were laws governing how much tinting can be on the front side windows.
Maybe i worry to much?

Not sure what reasons the legal beagles quote but for my 2 cents worth I think it's a matter of safety. This is especially true as the sun sets and lighting makes it harder to see and with dark tinting it's even harder. I even roll my windows down if I need the best vision possible backing my truck in close quarters and mine onlyhave the standard factory tint.

Being a retired LEO I used to hate any dark tint on windows. But being an old retired dude living in Florida I can’t get by without a light tint on my windows. It used to be illegal in many States but most have changed I think.

Even if the window is down and the driver makes what looks like eye contact, they don't necessarily see you.
How many time have you heard the excuse' I didn't see him?
Watching the front wheel for motion is a better/safer practice.

NYS requires at least 70% of light must pass thru the driver and passenger window . This is measured with a light passing tool that all inspection stations must have and use at time of the yearly inspection . That law was inforced some 7 yrs ago , but has been ignored by many inspection stations since . My car windows are factory etched to be 70% complyant with out any additional tint . But not all are . Federal law allows only cars with door tags labeled with MPV , are allowed to have dark privacy tint on windows rear of driver and passenger windows . No MPV tag ? No window tint over the 70% rule on any window .

I should add that , the only reason dark tint bothers me is some wave at you to go and they think you see them through the tint, then if you don’t go they get pissed off. If I can’t see your eyes, you’re not looking at me, if I can’t see your finger you’re not flipping me off, if I can’t see your hand you’re not waving.

In some regards I have often thought, at least in Florida, that having dark tint to obscure the driver can stop some road rage. Like Notgrownup mentioned, you can’t see them flip you off.

I also like to have eye contact with vehicles at intersections or pulling out and always watch their tires to make sure they are not rolling even a little bit.

Texas Tint Laws

In Texas, vehicle window tint laws specify the visible light transmission (VLT) percentages allowed for different windows. For the front windshield, a tint with a VLT of 25% is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line or top 5 inches, and this must not have more than 25% reflection.4 The front side windows must have a VLT of at least 25%.3 There are no restrictions on the darkness of the rear windows as long as the vehicle is equipped with side view mirrors.3
It is also legal to apply a clear, untinted UV blocking film over the entire windshield, provided that the film does not have a VLT lower than 70% combined with the glass.1 Additionally, a darker strip across the top of the windshield is allowed, but it cannot go lower than the AS-1 line or 5" and cannot have a VLT lower than 25%.1
For individuals with medical conditions that require darker tint, a letter from a physician stating the need for the exemption is required, as the Texas Department of Public Safety no longer issues medical exemption certificates.
