Trying To Read Transmission Dip Stick

I pull the bright and shiny chrome dipstick with a tiny "X" in a bracket that I can't tell if there's oil on or not. The oil isn't dark enough to show on the chrome stick. What's the trick on determining the oil level in a '21 Freewheelers transmission?

Try laying the dipstick down on a paper towel and see if the oil on the clean towel shows you the level.
Lots of folks use Redline Shockproof. You will see it for sure (and smell it).
Edit, I didn’t see the picture, I guess that’s what you were doing.

I took a piece of sandpaper and roughed up the Chrome on both sides of the stick. It does make it easier to read. You've got the shiny oil and the dull aluminum.

Redline is good stuff, lately I am using the HD heavy fluid with pretty good results, it is a bit harder to read on the stick tho

I use the Redline Tranny fluid also, very good shifting and easy to find neutral. Also easy to see the fluid level because of the color.

I lay the dipstick on a blue shop towel and carefully roll it. Works perfectly.

I run the Amsoil V twin transmission fluid, shifts like butter.

Hardware store had this small flame resistant blanket I used for sweating copper. Laid it over the dipstick and hit it with a pencil torch. Changed the color enough to read with lube on it. Don't go crazy with the heat.

I used to use forumula + and I could see it if I held it just right, now I use bel ray trannie fluid, it is red in color and I like it whole lot better than the forumula +

I actually have the same problem with my Goldwing (see'n the oil level on the dip stick) as well, BUT I truly believe it's because I change the oil and filter, way too often, so the oil is always very clean inside my motor..... I have a say'n: That if I can actually see the oil on the dip stick, than it time to change it........... I change oil every 2,500 - 3,000 miles w/out fail.....OR if I'm going on a trip, (the oil will also be freshly replaced) NOTHING feels better than fresh oil splashing around inside my motor, as I'm cruising down a highway...(with led jepplin, blasting away on the radio)
