still trying to find a rider backrest....

Is the stock seat on a Freewheeler a Sundowner style????:wave4:

No, the stock seat is not a Sundowner. I bought the Harley driver backrest for the stock Freewheeler seat, and I do not like it. Looks cheesy and not comfortable. On the other hand, on all the bikes that I have put Mustang seats on, their driver backrest is built into the seat and is very comfortable and looks good. According to Mustang, the seats for the Freewheeler will be ready in a few weeks.

Finally - whew!!!

THANKS so very much - I'll keep an eye on the Mustang seat - I thought I was going nuts trying everywhere!!!!!! Appreciate it!!

The stock seat on a Freewheeler is not a Sundowner. There is a Sundowner seat specifically for the Freewheeler. It is the only upgrade seat that Harley has for the Sundowner at this time. I have one on my Freewheeler and it is OK but I added a gel insert to the drivers part. It is still just OK. I have a Harley Touring backrest on my Freewheeler and it works just fine. According to Harley and their catalog there is no backrest yet for the Freewheeler but the stock Harley touring backrest works as does the touring adjustable backrest.

I am waiting for Mustang to bring out a touring seat for the Freewheeler. They told me last week that they had a prototype finished but that it would be "a few weeks" before it is ready for release. I am a big fan of Mustang seats and have had them on several Harleys in the past. I will probably order one as soon as it is available.

I use the HD adjustable br mount. It has a knob that is just under your left leg, you pull it and put the back rest where you want it and it stays right there, uses a cable.

fits flrt and tri glide models
I then use a mustang back rest, just make a new flat mount that fits and use the mustang br.
The mustang back rest is one of the best to make fitment to when making custom mounts to fit the rider.
just a thought.

HD backrest

I just got the rider backrest. It says you have to use the sundowner seat. It works fine with the stock seat. Holes are pre drilled and threaded. Easy as pie installation. Works great. Just call you HD dealer. 359.00

The stock Freewheeler seat is a couple of inches thinner than a stock seat, and sits lower. This makes the back rest pad sit too high, and look cheesy... in my opinion

I removed the pad and ground the adjusting bracket off the support post and re-welded it 3" lower. Actually, I welded the top of the bracket where the bottom was welded before. Now the pad can sit right on the seat, or adjust to the height of the pad on an Ultra. I thought this was an easier way than cutting the bottom end of the support bar and reshaping it to fit in the receiver.

Rider backrest

I paid that at the Harley Daler in Dothan Al. It included the padded backrest. I just took a very long ride with it. it worked and felt fine for me. I adjusted it all the way back and down. I got the adjustable pad. In my opinion it works and feels great. The only thing is is that your passenger needs to be thin.
