'22 tri glide ultra.. wondering if anyone has heat issues, serious heat..digital thermo shot at left rear head at plug was showing near 600°..

dealer says normal, yea my ass..trike is pretty much stock except did change head pipe to rid the cat

now using Amsoil in all three holes, drained antifreeze refilled with new plus two oz water wetter

purged the system for hour n half making absolutely sure not one single air bubble popped up..after cat removal temp did drop to around 350-400, but bike gets so hot it's unpleasant to even ride.

my question, is this heat shit normal for trikes, if so it's getting sold..

any ideas that doesn't consist of sinking thousands into a bike that cost 40 grand to begin with..after last ride wife asked where I hit the rain storm...

could literally ring out sweat from my shirt, shorts and undies soaking wet from sweat

miserable..ideas..???...

Since living in Florida I have owned a couple Ultra Classics, a 2016 TriGlide and now a 2019 TriGlide. I agree that we have experienced more passenger heat discomfort on the Trikes than with the Ultra Classics. I assume it is just the nature of the beast so to speak....big fenders, trunk, and tour pack not allowing as much air flow past engine.

I didn't modify much with the 2016 (103 motor) and we just put up with it, trying to avoid going stoplight to stoplight on hot days.

On my 2019 (114 motor now a 130 ci motor) I have headers (no cat). I use highway pegs to keep my right foot away from the air box as much as possible. I have a DK floorboard extender on the left floorboard which lets my foot stay a little over an inch further out. Also, I put on adjustable passenger auxiliary pegs so my wife can move her feet up off the OEM floorboards if she wants to on longer hotter days. The only time I ride without jeans and boots is if I am only running a couple of miles to the store. I find it extremely uncomfortable riding much further on hot days with shorts on.

There are several parts/modifications that Kevin (DK Custom) has developed that will cool your Trike down. Visit his site to get an idea. He not only manufactures these parts but he runs them on his Trike.

Good luck and welcome!

Everybody experiences heat differently. For many they run too hot for comfort.
90%+ of the time the engine is running too hot for its' own good.
Below is a video on Low and no cost ways to cool it down, and then below that is a video on taking a practical (and potentially less costly) approach to cooling them down.

On my 2020 Tri Glide in the end, it was a 117, same story as you I was going to N Y on rt 90 middle of July 95 degrees 90 miles an hour 398 degrees on my power vision the rear head pipe was so hot I think I could have stuck a screwdriver through it, I was hoping it would blow up, I would of left it there & hitch hiked home & reported it stollen.

That was it I got rid of it. There's lot of Tri owners on here, say theirs run 205 degrees in 110-degree weather I guess we got the bad ones? My Indian on 4th of July this past week we did a 464-mile ride 90 - 95 degrees got up to 304 degrees on my power vision, I can live with that, but that's still hot. I want to trade for a water-cooled Pursuit .

My 17 has a full tune with aftermarket head pipe and the insulators on the inside of the heat shields and it is still hot.
Yep, it will take a lot more than that to get it down close to optimum temps.
Here's what oil temp should be at, from the HD manual.

I ride all night. Cooler.

Really no hate for the Wing here… I actually toyed with the idea of going that way but Mrs Notgrownup is the true Harley fan. I know wings get hot as well, I swapped with a buddy of mine and we rode hard in the mountains and compared notes, they both get hot…

Since I had the tank off today to change plugs, I figured it would be a good time to install my tank lift. So, I ordered the air wings today also, hopefully this will help with some of the heat. The only thing left to do is wrap the head pipe.

When I removed the plugs, I checked the gap to see how far they are out. The two under the tank were around .038-.04 while the outer plugs were .035-.037. gapped the new plugs at .032 then installed. Color wise they looked good so looks like the dyno guy has it pretty good.
