Harley Cam Replacement

I think Wiz limited this to 07 and newer, but there is a simple heat-freeze technique that I have used on several occasions with the pre 07 model cam support plate to remove/install the outer bearings. You really don't need all those special pressing blocks-n-jigs. That's why I sold all mine to Wizard :D.

I've read about the heat n freeze method, just never felt like trying it.

Nothin' to it Mike...you just have to be careful sliding the frozen cams/bearings back in and make sure you have them lined up properly. With chain-driven cams...you almost need three hands. It's an old-school technique. That's the way they had to get the first atomic bomb to fit. The lid would not go one until they put it in the shade so it could cool and shrink to fit the housing. If it's good enough to build an A-Bomb....it's good enough for me.

All you have to do is make sure the wife is gone shopping for a few hours so you have free access to the oven in the kitchen to bake the support plate. When she comes home and asks..."what is that strange smell", the proper response is...."what smell...I don't smell anything".

I have the recipe to bake-the-cake if anybody wants to hear it.

Well gang... tomorrow I have something lined up.

2012 SESG. Will be installing cams, lifters, VPC, new head pipe, muffler cores and tuning with the TTS.

No adjustable pushrods so I'll be removing the tank. Guess I can get pictures of all this as a start.

I use to use the heat and freeze method awhile back to install ball joints on some cars.

There is a map from Jamie for the Woods 555 Prowler cams. It's close enough to see what the trike can do. I've already put a set of 555 cams in a TG. Nice, very nice. Talk to the Socko's. They also used the 555's.

There is an alternative way to do this as well. Pull your PCV off, sell it, and purchase the TTS Mastertune. This way you can tune the trike yourself. No Dyno needed.

I should probably read the entire thread, but how much better do the TW555 perform than the SE255 tuned by a good tuner?? With just the High flow air Cleaner, FULLSAC True Dual, shorty Supper Trappe mufflers, and the 30 tooth if that matters? Tunne using the TTS??

I had my TG tuned by the same tuner with both the SE255 and Woods 555 cams. He use to tune for the Harley race team so he is pretty good. All I can tell you is the Woods 555 cams are great. They hit harder at the low end and carry out considerably farther than the SE255 cams at the high end.
