Well it didn't take long to tear the new to me 2011 Tri glide down after noticing it had adjustable pushrod tubes I had to take a look. It has S&S 551 gear drive cams in it! The previous owner bought the bike new which I confirmed but nobody knows when or where these cams were put in! The bike ran ok but figured I'd check it out. I sent the heads to Mega Flo for head work and Jim is looking at cams with 34* -37* intake close. There aren't many gear drive cams available for my application so I may have to go back to chain drive. What are you guys running for cams? TIA Ron

I am running Andrews 57H. Had them in my Ultra and loved them.

Good fuel economy, (well as long as my right hand does not twist too awful hard) and stump pulling Tq.

I installed S&S 557 easy start cam in mine, as recommended by S&S. This is the cam they recommend for the trikes. Bike pulls hard in the lower gears which is what I wanted. Get that big thing rolling.

Word of advice. Have the dealership remap your ECM to disable the automatic compression releases. Having both the electronic and the cam releases they start battling each other. Ask me...found out the hard way.

If the bike ran great, then I would leave the gear driven cams in it, put it together when you get your heads back since you sent them off for work, I think you might be surprised after the head work, not sure what tuner you have, but power vision is a good tuner and you can do quite a bit of stuff with this tuner, doing auto tunes really helps out on the tune, just my thought is all, your bike, do what you want, have heard good things about gear driven cams and if it run good, oh well, going back to stock and then have to worry about everything else that goes wrong with a chain driven instead of gear

All for now Trampas

We are trying to stay with gear drive but cams are limited to the intake close preference. Looking for a little more mid range torque that's all. The 551s drop off at 4000. Thanks again for suggestions

Decision made. Called Cyclerama and the CR575G is available and on their way!

Thanks again for suggestions.

Some guys run them at about 10.5:1 with good results. A good tune will be the key.

Yeah I think Jim at Mega Flo is thinking 10.25 or so. I'll leave that to him. Gear drive with that IC are hard very limited. Wes Brown was on vacation last week so I just found out that they had them available. I was almost ready to go back to chain drive. I was just glad I could stay with what I had.
