OK What is the secret to make the Road Zeppelin Seats work. Bought the seat and wiring harness. Installed wiring harness and seat but compressor would not work. Took it to the dealer and they futzed with it and it worked until I removed the seat this past week and now it doesn't work again. Got power to the plug on the seat, 12 volts no engine and about 14.4 volts with engine running. Pretty freaking bad that you have to have the dealer futz with it each time you remove the seat.

maybe a bad seat and the dealer needs to send it back to the manufacturere for repair. Hope it still under warranty?

Same with me. I've had 2 RZ seats. One old 5 zone and one new 3 zone (still have) Only had one bladder go bad on my old seat. Would never own a Harley without it. I do 2 to 3 long distance trips a year and a SS1000.

Sounds like the dealer doesn't know what he's doing or you need a NEW seat - take it back. That's unacceptable.

Which Models?

My Road Zeppelin was purchased in March of 2016 and is PN 51072-09. It was on sale and I think a new model was out at the time. I have seen pictures of 3 different RZ seats over the years. I remember one that had 3 buttons up front and two for the back, on that had 3 up front (like mine) and none in back (3rd one is for rear), and one with 2 up front and one in the back. I am not talking about the hand pump model or the leather models and I know the part numbers are different. So, as far as button changes & bladders, has there been just 3 models of RZ, or maybe 4?

My seat had three buttons for adjustments, two for the front and one for the back. I took it to the dealer today asking what the secret was to get it to work, and found out the seat is bad. Dealer is sending it back to the manufacture for rework. Should have it back in about two weeks.

Hell! I'd have asked for a new seat. You paid for a new seat and you got a defective one and now have to return it to have someone tear it apart and fix it? I would have asked for my money back or a brand new seat.

MDF48 - As far as I know there were only 2 Road Zeppelin seats. One for 2008 to present (vinyl only) 2 buttons in front/one in rear and 2007 and earlier (leather or vinyl) 3 buttons in front and 2 in rear. I had the leather. Never seen one with no buttons in the rear. Is that a new model??

Yep.

PN 51072-09 Bought in early 2016. It has 3 buttons by the drivers left thigh and NONE in the back. The third button of the 3 is for the passenger bladder. It is in vinyl.

Here's a snapshot of the Demo Road Zeppelin with driver and passenger switches on drivers seat. It's P/N 52000201 listed for 08/later Touring and 09/later Tri Glides. Haven't seen anything from Harley that addresses changes, if any, from previous seats with P/N 51072-09.

Yes I agree that is exactly what my seat looks like. When I bought the seat in March of 16, the box it was in and the receipt showed PN 51072-09. I checked online and that part number has been updated to the 52000201 you listed. Makes me wonder what the difference is between the two. The 2017 and 2018 P&A catalogs shows the vinyl seat still using the PN 52000201, but the buttons are different. It has 2 buttons up front and 1 on the passenger seat. Oh well! :)

So now the passenger has to reach all the way down to the riders seat to change position?? Probably not a problem depending on arm length. :D

Rider now has to fumble with 3 switches instead of just 2?? WTF Harley can't leave well enough alone. Never carried a passenger so maybe it's more convenient for them this way???

More than likely it saves H-D some money going to a single switch instead of 2....and then charge more.

I wish they had kept the 3 front bladder model for the rider. That center bladder was a god send for my sciatica problem.

The seat that I had trouble with had three switches, two on the rider and one on the passenger seats. My seat is on it's way back to the manufacture in Wisconsin to get repaired. The reason that it was not replaced by the dealer is that the seat was purchased in Utah and my dealer is in San Diego. Should be back in a couple of weeks.

adaptor connector

I bought one the internet in 2013 for a Ultra classic. It was brand new and a lot less than the dealer. I put t on and it was wonderful. When I bought the 2015 TG and put the seat on it, it worked for a short time. it popped a breaker. I took it to the dealer and found it required a different adaptor wire. I think it was about $20. It has worked perfectly ever since. I'm not sure what year your trike is but that may be a problem.

My local dealer determined that my new seat was bad. they installed their demo seat on my trike and it worked. my seat was sent back to the factory in Wisconsin for refurbishment. It should be coming back this week if their estimation was correct. L hope so anyway. I have to move out of my house this weekend for about 6 weeks while it gets repaired after a little flooding issue from a leaking hot water line in the attic.
