Hi all! My 2005 Honda VTX 1300s is currently being custom triked by a local cycle shop. It's really more about stability for me due to a neck injury. It was try this or give up riding. :Excited: I have no experience riding a trike but do have my motorcycle endorsement as I just sold my Suzuki Volusia 800. I'm thinking about taking a trike course in a couple weeks, before I get my bike back as a trike, to learn some ins and outs as I've heard it's completely different than a two-wheel.

A big TrikeTalk welcome! The VTX makes a beautiful, great-performing trike! I trust you are getting an EZ Steer/rake kit put on along with the conversion. Particularly with your neck injury it will be important for you, as it makes the steering sooooo much easier than without the rake! You will need several days of practice on quiet streets and empty parking lots to get the feel of steering vs. leaning, but once you do that, you will not find it difficult. In fact, you will soon be saying: "why didn't I do this sooner!" :D

Read through this thread while your trike is being built. It will give you tons of great advice before you get out on the roads: http://www.triketalk.com/forum/gene...xperianced-trike-riders-please-post-here.html

Thanks for the welcome and the information!
The shop advised it's another $1000 for the rake kit so I'll be discussing that with him today. Though I've heard about it recently, I don't really understand what the rake does vs. does not so I will find some information on that today as well so I go into our conversation knowing more.

The rake kit takes the trike from manual to power steering. I have ridden without a rake and with, and I would not be without it. It is probably the first and most important "extra" you should consider before anything else!

Please contact Bazooka as soon as possible. He is owner/administrator of this forum in addition to running a trike shop; and he gives members a dramatic discount on the kits. See this thread: http://www.triketalk.com/forum/honda-trikes/5428-factory-rake-kits-610-695-a.html

After you look through the posts there, give him a call at 334-648-0157. He can arrange for the kit to be shipped directly to your trike builder or to yourself. It will be worth the price and will save you a lot! Bazooka (Randy) can also give you a clear explanation of how the rake makes a difference in your steering and answer any questions you have about it.

Nana-thanks! I've sent him a PM w/a few questions and awaiting an answer (I even did that before you replied-great minds think alike). If he hasn't gotten back to me after lunch then I will call. I'm really interested in all of this and if it will help w/the neck challenges than that's great.

Thanks everyone! I'm in the process of ordering the rake kit as I type (Randy is helping me out wonderfully with information!). Can't wait to get riding and meeting up with some of you! If you're ever in Central FL, let me know-we have a spare room, a spare bathroom, plenty of floor space, a warm meal and even yard space for a tent.

Actually sir, we do have a magnificent water view with glorious fishing available to all and even a skilled fishing guide right in our home at no charge to you. We are also pet friendly-small pets only as our little Herbie (toy poodle) is extremely loving & friendly but somewhat traumatized from a history of larger dogs before we adopted him from the poodle rescue. ThumbUp :D:giggle:
