Take a look at Champion, they offer a conversion for sporsters.

I think that the path that you are following would be a great trike for a wife.

I would recomend a Frankenstein Kit. Put one on my Dyna Fat Bob in one morning and was riding that afternoon. They make a Sportster specific kit. Be sure to buy the raked triple trees also, makes steering and handeling much easier. The thumb pic is befor i had the fenders on.
