On another forum there was a thread about a spoiler costing over $270.00 and the writer complained about sticker shock.

I saw one from a Tawainese company and then heard about

www.electricalconnection.com An American company using US parts.

I bought one from them keeping the money in the US and it cost $149.96 shipped.

Got it today.

I got a nasty supprise. When the mechanic installed the spoiler, the light on the spoiler did not come on. He said I need a dual converter. I contacted the merchant and asked what kind of light assembly does not come so when the lights are on the spoiler light is lit? He was defensive at first saying I should have ordered a converter if I wanted the lighting assembly to light. To be fair, the assembly does light when I hit the brakes, but that is a function of the brake modulator I had installed. Here is a photo of my trike with the OEM lights on, but the spoiler not lighted.

I didn't know any spoiler would light as a running light unless you "upgraded" it. Only works as a high level stop lamp.
Lighting when you brake should not be a function of a brake modulator. It should light during braking without a brake modulator!
Even the expensive OEM spoiler's light has to be upgraded to work as a running light also!

That is the dumb world of motorcycling. We need all the light we can get why would anyone make a light fixture and not put a light in it? I do not care it if costs $20.00 more. Give me the best lighting I can have.

I have a brake modulator on the rear lights and now the spoiler to make my trike more visible (these lights blink 5 times stop and blink another 5 times when I apply either brake.

I think you misunderstood. The spoilers have brake lights in them. But they do not funtion as running lamps unless you "upgrade".

Dawg, I fully understand anyway in my sordid mind.. What good is an unlighted spoiler reflector? Yes, mine flashes when I apply the brakes. I guess this is because I have the brake modulator, but not for sure. I equate this spoiler not having a bulb unles you upgrade to my business. I am a photographer. I will sell you a photo but you have to pay me more money if you want the photo on paper or on a disk.

Just so you'll know. The reason the spoiler lights are not running lights unless upgraded.
Lighting devises are controlled by FMVSS 108(Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards paragraph 108.)
The lamp we are discussing is actually called a High Level Stop Lamp. The key word being Stop. The requirements for it's function do not include being a rear lamp/running lamp only an additional stop lamp.
Yes, I agree w/you, it should be on as additional lighting, just telling why it's not!

Thanks for your knowledge. Had the lights been listed this way I may not ha ve been so pig-headed in my claims. After second thought - NAH.

Like the rest of us don't you ride a Honda? Japanese assembled in US.

Got the dual converter or what ever its called.

Although I feel it should come with the spoiler, I ordered one and with ample trepidation and not too much liquid courage I installed it.

Wonders never cease

It works.

Anyone on this forum with a RED GW with a spoiler like that in the Keys today?

Wheels,

Thanks for the offer. I had a mechanic make me an installation cheat sheet so I was able to get it installed. I am very mechanical. I screw up everything I touch.

Hope to see you in the not too distant future. You planning on Kerrville?
