Exhaust popping - Need suggestions

Whenever I accelerate or slow down, the exhaust pops. Not quite a backfire, but noticeable. Doesn’t matter if it’s warmed up after riding a while or just starting off. Just finished up the Southern Exposure HOG ride of over 4,700 miles, so I rode in lots of different elevations, temperatures, fuel options, etc. and it did it the whole time. I found out it even does it in a Tropical Storm named Cindy, but that’s another story.



I’ve got E Series exhaust, Sport pipe headers (no cat) and the PowerVIsion tuner, but I can’t get it to stop popping.



Any ideas?

Yes try useing DK's Thunder Toques on the end of the muffler's they stopped my poping 👌📞

Decel popping does Not damage your engine...it is simply unburnt fuel that is burning in the exhaust tract after exiting the engine.

Decel popping occurs when one of two things are present.

1. The bike is so lean the exhaust is superheated and is burning the unburnt fuel that is in the pipes (there is always some unburnt fuel in the pipes no matter how lean). This is very rare.

2. The AFR IN THE pipes is just right to burn the unburnt fuel. This is quite a common occurrence when free flowing pipes are installed (whether or not a free flow A/C is installed). It can also occur if there is an exhaust leak that is introducing extra air into the exhaust tract.

It is always a good idea to check for exhaust leaks.

Also, check for intake leaks at the air cleaner and at the intake manifold/heads.

A way to change the AFR IN THE Pipes is to install Thunder Torque Inserts.

If you don't like decel pop, and don't want to change the AFR in the pipes by adding baffles or adding Thunder Torque Inserts....

It is absolutely possible for a tuner and someone who knows how to use it to tune the decel pop out.

HOWEVER, the methods used to tune the decel pop out of very open pipes are almost always at the sacrifice of performance and/or MPG.

An open pipe with the best performance tune is almost always going to have decel pop.

The patented TTI's will also bring back your low end torque, and some.

OK, that's two for two on installing the Thunder Torque Inserts. Just don't know which ones to order with the E Series pipes with the closed end discs on the end of the exhaust.

The E series pipes should have 14 discs that you can add or remove to get the proper back pressure to match the other exhaust components you are running.
 
You can do the cigar smoke test by passing it near the clamps and see if you see the smoke pushed away. But since I don't usually have cigars available, I just go to each clamp starting at the exhaust ports and make sure that they are tight to spec. Now if you have used the same clamp several times, the clamp could be bad and you will get a leak even if torqued to spec. HD recomends that they not be reused.

I missed that you are running the E-Series exhaust!

That style exhaust, SuperTrapp, E-Series and a few other names...basically any disc style exhaust are the only exhausts that the TTI's do NOT work with.

As BillR said, add or subtract discs to get the sound/power that you want.
