Reverse finally went out

Oh well, I'm still under warranty. A little over 20k on the clock. Glad it's going to be on the motor company this time. Needless to say, just before my trikes second anniversary I will purchase the extended factory coverage. :AllGood::yahoo:

While your riding season is longer in Tx. than in "my neck of the woods", hopefully your downtime isn't too long.

What does the factory "fix" for this common problem involve, if you know?

Don't know. What's worse is that I make it a point to park as if the dang trike never came with it. So it really hasn't had much use.

If it isn't the Breaker ,Then they just put a new motor in...If they have a new motor on hand, Its less than an hour job...Two wires, And two mounting bolts...Took mine out myself 3 times...

Bob, the circuit breaker is a sealed unit. I looked at it. The fact that every time I hit the R button the dash light blinks three times, makes me wonder if I don't have a bad connector in line somewhere. Happened last week once then it started working again till today.

Lucky you are under warranty, I still have until April of 2018 on mine, have used my reverse a total of 2 times since I have had it, I push it in the garage instead of the reverse, easier for me and it doesn't push all that hard either, was surprised the first time I did it, I can't turn my neck very good to see is why I push it in the garage

Not sure if I will buy extended warranty or not when the time is up, if I don't and the reverse happens to go out, I will put in the mechanical one for sure, but since I don't use reverse very much hard to say what I will do

Just had mine replaced.....thank god for extended warranty. Bill was $1700 and change.

I figure the cost of the mo co's extended warranty is worth the cost if bought right at the end of the two year basic factory coverage. That will give me an additional 5 yrs of coverage less the deductible.

In a little over 100K miles of riding TG's, I've had 3 reverse motors replaced under warranty...2 on the original warranty and 1 on the extended warranty.

I do use my reverse quite a bit.

I have a lip that I have to back over when leaving the house...I can push it over, but only by getting a little momentum.

Usually at work I park in such a way that requires reverse to get out...our parking lot is a bit weird.

When I picked my new Tri up, they told me the "R" flashes 3 times first ,then hold it again & it goes into gear. Mine does this every time, & works fine. It does get a lot of use with me, I dont worry about it. I got the EW ,so it will prob. not fail. lolol Now ,if I had not bought the EW, it prob. would have quit 3 times already in the last 10k miles. !! :laugh:

Might be on the '17 MY. On the '14/'16 3 flashes means an issue. On top of this, today the reverse decides to work .................:gah: Go figure. I'm still going to mention it to my service department.

Reverse

Wife/I have 2010 Harley Street Glide trikes - both have orig. reverse motors.

We use them when the need arises but rather infrequently - knock on wood we

have't had an issue YET, only 1 time she tripped her breaker (reset it and rode on).

Weak battery can cause reverse motor issues. It is a high torque motor and draws a lot of current. Seen a few with corrosion on the electrical connection threaded posts under the nuts .... again causing more current draw. Easy rebuild for a good auto electric shop. No need to replace the whole unit. 2014 with 28k and mine is still working .... knock on wood!

Smart thinking..ThumbUp....If i had the extended warranty i would have gladly paid the 50, Rather then crawling under the trike and pulling the motor out...[3 times for me]....Even though i'm retired my time is worth quite a bit more than 50....Money comes and goes..

Exactly ! Hell, even in long sleeves, all I've got to do is scrape my arm and either I start bleeding or I get those damn ugly purple splatches all over my forearm. :gah:

If you do get it replaced ask them to let you keep the old one, your bike will not always be under warranty and usually all it takes to repair it is a set of brushes and then you will have a spare.

Say what ? What part of the factory warranty do you not understand ? The dealer is required to return the defective part to HD or, field destroy it upon confirmation from HD. They will not return it to the owner of the trike.

If I were out of the basic factory warranty, I would be more than happy to pay the $50.00 deductible required under the extended coverage.
