Major discovery with OEM GPS

I'm getting ready for a camping trip and, once again, I'm putting in an address that my OEM GPS doesn't like. Usually it happens with streets like NE Hwy 314. Or after putting in the address and then a couple of letters for the street name and a drop down menu comes up that does not include the street choice needed. I just discovered that I can put in the address, and then the city, and then search. Or address, city, then street and search.

I just did this with 3 different addresses I was having trouble with. After filling in boxes using an "alternative" order, all 3 worked. Maybe this GPS is not so bad after all.

Wow ... my Wing is a 2007. That means I've struggle with this for 10 years. One of those addresses I've tried to enter every year for 10 years. Thanks Honda ... why can't it be as easy as "hey Siri route me to the Old Spanish Sugar Mill" ???

My GPS software was updated last summer to version 4.80.

It's really not so bad. Once I figured out this same issue on my 2009, all is good.:good:

I just came home from a trip down to Arizona from Central California and I too struggled with my 2007 gl OE GPS. It is so frustrating to try to enter an address only to have a drop down menu bring your search to a halt. Glad I read your msg! I will certainly give your suggestion a try. Thanks again for sharing.:clapping:

I don't think ANY GPS works the way real humans think. I have trouble with odd addresses all the time. I've used Garmins though and not for very long. Just 2 years. I had no trouble at all with my phone and a GPS app. So I've wondered why they can't work the same from the get-go. I think they do it just to irritate us.:xzqxz:

Is the software update worth the price? I have a 08 that has never been updated.

If you use your GL1800 NAVI and it has never been updated, I would say it is worth it. If you buy the official update from Garmin, just know that it will also be outdated by at least a year or so but will still be much more current than you have now. Also be aware that if you have a Garmin standalone unit with lifetime maps, you have the ability to load the most current maps that Garmin has out into your GL1800 navi unit. One great source on how to do it is here: http://gl1800riders.com/forums/118-navi/72686-fyi-how-update-your-navi-latest-everything.html That is what I did for mine...

I agree with pwhoever ... the update is worth it. If you go on a trip using your old sw, you will come across many roads that are not on your GPS. With a newer version, they'll more likely be there.
