Loud Clanking Noise

I have a 2012 GL1800 with a 2014 Motor Trike conversion. The u-joint and drive shaft were recently replaced under warranty. I've been riding and felt like I was hitting a pothole every so often. Today this happened and there was definitely no pothole. I hear a loud clank, feel a jolt and lose drive for a moment. I was downshifting from 5th to 4th in the MPH range because the traffic in front of me was slowing. I'm hesitant to ride again because I don't want to get stuck in the middle of some back roads and have to call for a tow. When the u-joint broke it damaged the engine out spindle and the dealer replaced it and the bearing (at my cost). They had to drop the engine for that. What could cause the clank and jolt?

Any thoughts are most welcome.

Well if it was me I would be talking to the last person that worked on my scooter.

Did you? Maybe you should have checked his work when he did your drive line beforeyou left his shop.:mad::pepper::pepper:

It could be a GHOST shift.
That is the transmission pops out of gear and goes
back in gear by itself.
Has it happened more than once??

I had my driveshaft replaced a few years back when the new one came out.
But prior to that I had to have the CV joints replaced too.
Might have them checked out. They were what caused my clanging noises as your describing it.
Especially when giving it some throttle.
