Trike rolls backward while parked in gear

2 home made chocks with eye-hooks tied together with a bright yellow line long enough to lie on the seat (as a reminder) lives in the trunk...just in case. But still ALways park in 1st!

My house had a steep incline driveway, my 1500 never rolled down it, but a Harley Softail trike did. No on the reverse as a parking brake I know a person who did that and it cost them big $$$ to repair. Tie off the front brake with the tiny bungee cord thats about 6" long and no one ever has a use for.

Trike lady, I thought of that, but was advised against tying the front brake. If there is the slightest hole or crack in the cylinder or the line the increased constant pressure will force all the fluid out of the line.

I got a chock to go behind one of the rear wheels.

Wifes bithday is tommorrow--was thinking about getting her a pair of steel toed boots at a yard sale--then she can stick her foot under a rear tire when we stop and double as an alarm---Kill two birds with one stone !! :)

I just have my wife stay out on the trike and hold the brake until I am through with lunch. I always bring her out a sandwich though and park in the shade when I can.

Get a line-lock and plumb it in or use the bungee, or a large rubber-band. Don't plan to leave it locked for days...just those occasions while you have to awkwardly park out there on the road.
An hour or so will not make your brakes explode.

I would avoid any sort of mechanical parking brake. Takes more junk and cables to make it work, it's in the way and requires a special caliper that is equipped for it as well.

Meredog.....we all know good-n-well that if my wife knew I was saying things like this, she would kick my butt 7-ways from Sunday. She could care less if the trike rolled off a cliff or not...it's up to me to make sure it don't. My big rubber band on the front brake lever works just fine. One of these days I will get around to installing that line-lock.

Usually...the thing is so loaded with all her junk that it will hardly roll anyway!

Found a set of boots for her (kinda-ones black and ones brown), at a yard sale this afternoon, They are size 12's --she wears an eight---but will be able to slip in and out of them easier.
they are not steel toed but that might be better cause if i hear her screaming i will know i need to get out to the trike on a run so it doesn't get damaged.:D

Commanche...I'm pretty confident that if my Master Cyl had a Hole or Crack in it, I'd want that sucker to explode in a Parking Lot instead of when I was trying to stop!!! Any Brake system is only as good as the entirety of it's parts...that's kinda why we're supposed to be checking over our Rides before taking off. That Hour or two of pressure on the system won't destroy it.

OK...found a Valve used by Several Off Road/Rock Crawler Manufacturers. These Valves have a Very Hi PSI Rating and have been known to hold Big 4x4's on a Grade for months.
You can't order from the Mfg'r without setting up an account and going thru a lengthy explaination of what the Valve will be used for, mounting position, etc...the Route to take is do a Dealer Locator for your area, call and ask if they have that Part # instock and go pay cash for it...now all you need is a talanted Mechanic to Plumb it into your system. I'm gonna go for this and will document w/pics as I go along and post.

Bosco: This is what I keep handy on trips; and of course always parking in 1st. Never fails....so far!!

BT...I've used the Jamar before and while I personally have never had an issue with it's performance (no failures in 4 years of use)...current research revealed that a number of people using it have reported Failures. I'd rather spent the extra $$$ for the Peace of Mind...but it's just feedback on a question I'd had regarding Trikes for quite awhile. I'm sure someone will soon post the discovery of the "Better Mousetrap" ;-)

If you have electric reverse, put in nuetral and push in
reverse button. Turn off key. Release reverse button and
your set till you start and go again. I have found that to
work for me. By releasing button after turning off key it
will automatically reset to neutral when the key is turned
back on.

I can't imagine it rolling in first gear. However i have purchased the chocks because we all know that at a lot of the rallies the parking lots are far from level. Many times because I have the chocks I am able to use a parking place that everyone else is passing up.

Hi
I have come late to this thread but here is my three penny worth.
I am considering purchasing another trike in the USA. Prefered option is the Champion ISR.
My present trike is a Eurowing(urchased in the USA) which already has a hand brake, sorry Emergency Brake, on it. It does how ever also have an indicator light on the dash which let's you know when it is operating. Very useful but even then I have driven away with it on.

In Europe all vehices , except two wheelers, have to have a EB and Champion don't have it. They have however quoted me that for a further $575 one can be fitted. That just may be useful to anyone who is considering purchasing the Champion Trike. So far lovely people to deal with and answer equiries very quickly, unlike EML or Eurowing which take ages or even don't reply.

Reavis, thanks for info. I didn't know that releasing reverse button after turning off key would reset to neutral when turning key on.

Have learned many thing's on Trike Talk.

When I had my CSC Trike, they told me when I bought it to make sure before you turn the key off to place it in reverse, that, that was the only parking brake you needed. Now that I have the Tri-Glide I always use the parking brake.

my suzuki/leman trike had an emergency brake but rode like a lumber wagon my honda/champion rides good but has no eb. Seems all trike kits should come eqipped with eb
