Just looking for some input. Is it time to upgrade? We have a 2010 Tri-Glide with about 26K on it that we love. Bought it in 2012. My wife and I enjoy it but like everyone else her complaint is the engine heat, and mine is that when riding 2 up and going up an incline it bogs down.

wondering if the new 2014's + have less heat issues and a little more getty up. We are going out to try a test ride this weekend, but most shops won't let you test ride 2 up, so that could be a pain.

Of course the upgraded touch screen, blue tooth and GPS would be a nice add.

Anyone have any input based upon their ridding the new ones?
thanks

Morning......down shifting is a nice tool for riding "inclines"!!! I read and hear this all the time....would you bog down a stick-shift car doing inclines? There is nothing wrong with your current ride.

Most heat Issues are caused by the Cat in your head pipe, lots of info here and everywhere on how to remove or correct heat Issues.

I have a 2015 Tri Glide (103) and it has plenty of HP for the mountains. My wife and I did a 3 week ride to Myrtle Beach Bike Week and then Florida last spring. We live in Cincinnati, so we went down I-75 into Tennessee and then over to N.C. down to S.C etc. all thru the mountains. In addition to the wife I had at least an additional 75 lbs of luggage. Never a single power problem. It pulled all the hills without an issue and most of the time in 6th gear. The only time I had to gear down was in traffic or tight winding roads.

It is a wet head and it did run hot...... the key word is "did". I have since replaced the headers (American Customs) and got rid of the cat. I also added an oil filter relocation and oil cooler kit (DK Customs). No more heat problems.

Go for the new one..... you will love it :)

I have a 16 and my buddy has a 09 other than the gearing difference they are pretty close in performance.I have gutted my head pipe and installed the SE stage 1 air cleaner backing plate along with the high flow air filter.I also put a Fuel Moto download in it,that made a big difference in heat and performance. If you haven't already done these things i suggest you try this before you trade. You will see a BIG difference in the way it runs and less heat for a lot less money than trading.IMO

2009-10 TriGlides came equipped with a 32 tooth front belt pulley. 2011-later came with 30T pulleys. That right there makes a substantial difference when riding in hilly terrain. Living in PA,you might be happier with a 30T front. Where I live, there are very few hills and 75-80mph speed limits so a 32T seems to work better.

no umpf!!

I too have a 2010 triglide. Get the 30 tooth gear put into it and a nice Cam and you will be able to climb those mts!! I put true duals on mine but that didn't get rid of the heat.... You don't want heat and more power, get a 1800 Goldwinger...............just sayin.........:Coffee:

Have a 2009 TriGlide with 47,250 miles. Changed to the 30 tooth and put Fatshots on it. Put Woods 555 and had it programed. Runs good. Use Amsoil Syn, Quiets motor down and cuts some heat. Runs good on hills, twisties, and flat roads. Don't plan on trading it any time soon.
Got lucky got out of Garyville, Louisiana a day before they closed Interstate 55 North for flooding. Found out the Policemen that were ambushed on Airline were killed directly behind where my Aunt and Uncle lived. Rest in Peace.

We love our 2014. We have 22k miles in 26 months. I de-catted my stock headers and added Nightrider FL-Vied-10s to richen it up. It's now no hotter than any previous HD I have owned. We love the Boom system and use it all the time for navigation and playing music off a memory stick. Go find a good deal on a leftover 2016.

My buddy has a 2009 tri and wants to have a 30 tooth pulley installed did you have to install a shorter belt or was the stock belt able to be used.

My unsolicited advice.

We have had an '09, 11, and 14 Tri-Glides and a 15 Freewheeler.

You can put the lower gears in the '09 or '10, but then you will be unhappy with the mileage you will get all the time because of the lower gearing. When going uphill, downshift. It is really easy. The heat is caused by exhaust gasses in the pipe. They will be the same temperature cat in or out. All trikes are 103 cid engines. Newer ones MAY have a tad bit more horse power, but is that very little gain worth the 10 or 15 grand it will cost. If you are drag racing your riding buddies it may be worth it.

Wife rode the '09 until I needed a trike too. Bought the 11 when I inherited the '09. Traded it for the '15 Freewheeler with 58,000 virtually trouble free miles nearly completely stock. Her 11 was traded for the '14 Tri when someone bought it, rode it 142 miles and didn't like it. Saved 10 grand when we bought it. Wife really likes the new electronics. Both rode nearly the same. Her Tri gets better mileage than my 'Free, could be my weight difference (I'm nearly 100 pounds heavier), but the Free is 300 pounds lighter. could be my driving style, who cares. We tour, not race. Half the fun of a Harley is driving it a while then upgrading to a newer, bigger, better, faster. Good Luck

I've had a 2011 TG and now have a 2014 TG. You can read about the differences I've noticed in this thread-

In short, while I like a lot of the newer stuff on the '14, I would not have traded it if they had not given me such a fantastic deal.

Both the 11 and the 14 generate about the same amount of heat...the 14 might make a little bit more heat.

There are ways to get rid of the heat...check out this LINK. When you get rid of the heat, you will probably not experience the bogging down that you currently feel.

The 14-ups have a tad more power, BUT you will still have the heat which causes it to bog down, and will either have to get rid of that heat or downshift on inclines.

Steve.....you have such a way with words and explain it so well. Thank you. I've never understood the need for more power, more mpg, etc.

Thanks, will have to check into making some mods mentioned here. I read your posting on your rebuild. Very informative, but maybe a little over my head. I purchased mine used and have no idea at this time what mods if any the previous owner did. Need to have it checked out.
