New to forum and owning a Freewheeler.

Hello fellow Harley owners, this is my first post on this website. I’m 62 and my wife has a disability, she has no sense of balance to ride on a two wheels any longer so I thought a three-wheeler would help. I just hate going to a three-wheeler but I have no choice if I want to bring my wife along. Did any others go through two-wheel withdraw when you finely had to stop riding them and go to a three-wheeler? On July 9[SUP]th[/SUP] I will be picking up my Jet Black Harley-Davidson Freewheeler. Though riding and owning Harley’s is nothing new to me, riding a trike will be. If there are any pointers one can give me please speak up now or forever hold your peace.

I have now watched every YouTube video on the H-D Freewheeler there is and have read every web page reviews on the bike I could get my eyes on, too. To be honest with you, there are not many, maybe two, YouTube video reviews on the web that would help and/or convince anyone that the Freewheeler is the right choice for a trike. Other than it is a bike that is built from the ground up as a true trike and not an aftermarket add-on like the rest are, except the Can-Am Spyder. The Can-Am Spyder just did not have the network like Harley does in the interim that something goes wrong on a road trip. Yes, I know there are more dealers popping up all the time, but I will not live long enough to see such a vast network like H-D has throughout the US. Plus, the H-D dealers here in northern Illinois are always having a free lunch (Wild-Fire, Fox River) every weekend if you’re inclined to go for a ride every Saturday and partake in the freebee.

By looking on this forum and others like it I have ordered engine heat shields, luggage rack, bumper, windshield and backrest with sissy bar just to name a few thing on the short list.

Do any of you taller guys have trouble with the 1" closer seating that is on the Freewheeler? I’m 6 foot and the Freewheeler looks by the ads, that it is made for shorter riders of 5’ 7". It did feel a little too forward for me, or is that something you have to get use to; after all it is a Road King platform? Thanks for your help and advice in advance.:D

The biggest difference is cornering, it is a push with one hand while pulling with the other, after getting familiar with it you will be able to handle most of it with one arm. Do some figure 8's in an empty parking lot.
The other difference is the extra width in the rear, be extra careful when stopping for gas.
Ride Safe.

Welcome!!! I'm 6 feet tall as well and have no problem with the Freewheeler. Ride two up a lot with my wife and she loves it!!! Do change the seat,,,, the stock seat sucks!! I have the Sundowner and it seems fine for me!! Harley does have a "Tallboy" seat, but I have not tried it! Others will chime in here as well!!

welcome aboard. spend a little time in a parking lot until you get the feel of not leaning to steer. Figure 8"s are a great start. Once you got your mind set then go out a learn. after about 400 miles you will start to be comfortable. If you are like most of us at that point your going to say I should of done this years ago.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who just chimed in to help me out. if you can give me any more pointers about the freewheeler please let me know and don't hold back.

I've been on two wheels for over 40 years now and I know I'm going to have to go through some kind of adjustment with my riding habits.

Have you given any thought to a sidecar, for your present bike ??? Just saying.....

Seat for tall people.

I'm 6'4" and the original seat on the trike was far too low and forward. Killed my back. Tried a Harley "Sundowner" and not much better. Corbin has a seat for the FW and they made some custom changes for me at no extra charge. The Corbin seat has been great!

THIS ^^^^^ I am just over 6ft, The tall boy was "ok" I had Corbin make me a seat as well, custom, no added cost. I also ditched the 12in mini apes for 16in twin peaks apes. Now I am a BIG guy and let me tell ya the free fits me. Let me also tell you that I ride with an organization that rides HARD, I have no issues keeping up, I just have a stage one. lean into turns it just "feels" better. Look where you want to go and let your hands do it.

I love my free, only thing is plan extra time for gas stops and really any stop you make, folks are constantly stopping me to talk about the free it takes forever LOL.

Photos of trike for everyone

Here are some photos of the new H-D Freewheeler with some mods. Just a start on the mods, will finish as soon as my H-D order comes in.

Wife has been on the bike now twice and she loves it: it’s the first time in 40-years that she has ridden with me. Not looking back at giving up two wheels one bit. This bike is FUN, FUN, and FUN!:pepper: Summer will just be too short now with this new H-D.

Adjustment period to the new trike has been very fast and I really like the heel-toe shifter with the new toe extension on it. Also an abundance of power to leave the cages sitting at the traffic lights.

Will take more photos when more parts come in for everyone. Thanks for all your help and reliable information on this forum, too.

All photos taken with iPhone 6s.
