vibrations during playback (GoPro)

Ok for all you GoPro users, how do you get such a smooth video from your GoPro?

I used mine for the first time this weekend. I used the suction cup and mounted it on the center of my fairing just below the windshield. While riding I could see it being buffeted by the wind and upon playing the video, you can see the vibration in the movie.

Will that go away when I edit and convert the video?

What is the best resolution to film? 720P? 1080P?

Also, I had set the camera to video + photo however I don't see any photos only video.

going to work on some more editing today (now that I have read the manual for GoPro Studio).

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I would say you should use a handlebar mount as opposed to suction cup. That will make for much smoother video.

As far as 720 or 1080, it depends on a couple of things--one is how long you can video--if you have a small storage card use 720, a large one you can use 1080. The lower the resolution, the longer time you get to video.

Also, it depends on what you might be watching the playback on. If it's a big screen TV you would want to shoot for 1080. The video will be much more crisp and clear.

I don't know anything about the video + photo.

yeah, I know about the 720 vs 1080 an storage space or file size.... My questions was pretty much to find out what most folks are using as their settings.

On the Venture there is NO room for another mount on the handlebars. Also, the only place on my engine guards (crash bars) is at the bend at the top. I have the full floor boards so that blocks everything else.

I found a product called "Hog Tags" which is just like a hose clamp with a rubber lining on the inside to cushion vibration. It fits around your upper fork tube HOWEVER, on my Venture, I Have a wind deflector in that exact location which prevents mounting it there.

The place that sells the Hog Tags, also sells a connections which goes from your GoPro to the aux power port so that you don't use up your battery....I will be getting that for sure.

I would find an alternate mount to the suction cup mount no matter what. At some point, it will come loose, and there your GoPro will go rolling down the road.

That would suck.

I have it tethered so no chance of it rolling down the road. But I do want to find someplace else to mount it.

I have thought of mounting to my helmet but I don't always wear one. Also, my head is on a swivel when I ride so it would be difficult to watch the playback.. LOL

OH YES, the woes of GO Pros....

I have an older unit I guess because I can't set it to do video and photos at the same time. With my edit software I can take a snapshot of any thing on the video so that works for me.

As for using the suction cup mounted on the front, that is the only way I have ever used mine (have for maybe 15,000 miles of videoing) and it has always given me smooth video. On real rough roads it bounces some but not bad. Probably the difference between your RSV and my GL1800. Mounting to the fork tube or crash bar will give you a different view but the bounce will be even worse I'm sure.

I wish I had something to offer in the way of solutions. Sorry but I just can't think of a thing...

:Agree::Agree: If you can get past looking like an antenna farm the helmet would be better. I know I've missed some sights over the years by not having mine on my helmet but for me it just would not work. I run hooked to the bike power so I really don't need that cable wrapped around my neck... :xszpv::xszpv:

I don't think it will work on my helmet since I look around so much while riding. I think I will try it this weekend just to see if it's as bad as I think it will be.

How about using the Velcro that is used to hold the EZPass, those are great and they won't let go. I've had my EZPass on my windshield for several years now.

You would think so but it's been mounted that way for almost 2 years without incident. Guess what will happen tomorrow...

I mounted my GoPro Hero 4 to the fork leg of my Ultra Classic / Champion conversion with a Hog Tag Collar this morning. A little vibration at low speeds, but pretty steady above 10 MPH.
