Trike raked

New owner GL1800, 2001 CSC. HOW CAN i tell if it has been raked?

Phil, the easiest way I know is to look at the top portion of the tree. If it is black then you probably still have OEM. If it is machined aluminum then it's not OEM for sure. As to which degree - that takes some measuring. Unless you have a trike you can compare yours to with a know rake kit. The distance between the back half of the front fender and the front of the engine will increase as rake degree increases. CSC owners usually put the 6 degree rake kit on but there are some that opted for the 4.5 degree....

Hope that helps. :xszpv::xszpv:

It appears my trike is not raked. Is that why I have front shimmy on deceleration? What is the cost of raking?
YES. About $1200 to $1500 if you have a dealer install it. The GL1800 kit will cure that issue if properly installed. :xszpv::xszpv:

Our forum founder BAZOOKA sells and installs very good rake kits. Shoot him a PM.. ThumbUp If you are so inclined they are not difficult to install. I have done several for friends.

Depends on whether you and a buddy do it or you pay to have it done. My kit is a Champion EZ Steer 6 degree kit bought in 2004, included bearings, triple trees, and two extensions. Was a bit over $600 then as I recall. Was a good opportunity to do some other maintenance, seals, etc. Wasn't hard at all, just took time.

YUP.... That works too if you have a bike to compare with. Looking at the top of the "tree" is quicker and simple.....

For some I guess. I would think it'd be a simple thing to "GOOGLE" images to compare to if there are no "bikes" to look at in person. Once you know what to look for, you can spot a raked trike front at some distance.

And besides ... if the previous owner got tired of looking at the reflection of the bright alloy in his windshield on bright sunny days (I did anyway) he might have covered the top surfaces of the triple tree with a coat of textured semi flat black?

If the cost of a rake kit is a problem (I know it would be for me) you may want to try replacing the steering head bearings with the "All Balls" bearings...I know that helped the shimmy on deceleration when mine was a two wheeler.

Loose steering head bearings, old fork oil, fatigued front springs, loose axel nut, low front/rear air pressure............for starters. But bearings & low air pressure is the biggest problems that can be solved.
