Question on possible rear end slippage

I have a 2006 Goldwing Champion trike. Occassionally in 5th gear between 40 and 45 mph I get a slight hesitation in drive train and slight jolt as though a gear has slipped. It only happens occassionaly. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas. Trike has 28000 miles. Thanks

Esteban782: I feel your pain. I experience something similar to that in about every gear, that is, when it actually goes into gear. I get so excited most of the time when my piece of crap starts that the transmission malfunctions seem minor. As you can tell I can't help you, but lucky for you we have some of the most knowledgeable people on the planet here that I am sure will jump in and give you some great advice. How many miles do you have on your Wing? Maybe it's the 'Wesson Oil'? Goldwings are not 'crap' they last a good long time if you take care of them.
Has anyone checked the front U-joint for wear and gave it grease? When was the last time you changed the fluid to the hydraulic clutch?
Esteban782 are you running synthetic oil or dino oil? I know people who have had trans problems with synthetic oil and switched back to regular oil. Wesson oil & olive oil not very well.

40-45 MPH is actually lugging the 1800 Gold Wing badly in 5th Gear....possibly what "Old Timers" used to refer to as "Gear Wrap" or "Gear Slack"......does it do this mainly if You slightly roll out of the Throttle, then "re-load" the engine....???

There is a known problem with '06 GL1800 transmission failures and yours sounds like may be in the beginning stages. Honda is aware or it and may, I repeat, MAY offer you some help considering the low mileage. It has happened. I would contact your dealer and be sure to have all your service documentation in order.
