Late nighters---unite!!!

The only reason I'm not asking the doc to let me go back to work is, my wife is having a hard time dealing with the holidays, this being the first without her dad.

Truth be told, I'm having a hard time dealing with it myself.

Years ago when my Grandmother died on Dec. 21st. the family hurried to bury her on Dec. 23 so we wouldn't have to do it on Christmas Eve and remember her passing every year on that day.
For me, it is still hard around the Holidays.
I'm also saddened by the rampant commercialism these days.

A few years back my grandmother died on the December 23rd. Everything was held up until after Christmas of course. She was buried on the 28th.

And yes, commercialism has all but taken over Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas....I gave myself a present. I traded both my glocks for a kimber tactical ultra II. It has a crimson trace laser grips. Nice weapon.

Here's a picture of it cocked and locked....

KIMBER

Scott, congratulations, that is a shweet piece. My son had a Covert Carry Ultra with a CT for a while. Carried it ALL the time. He had 1 FTF and sold it.
Now, you have to go on a new holster search.

Heh!

Ordered one this evening. ThumbUp

Humph.

Evidently, Bill is the only one around here that appreciates gun porn. :D

Seriously though, tonight I took it apart and cleaned it and oiled it. It was nasty! I couldn't believe the gun shop sold it in that condition.

Was it new or used?

I see we both made it through the holidays. How much longer are you off work?

I owned a Kimber Ultra CDP II for a couple of years. Nice pistol but sold it and bought a Sig p938 Nightmare 9mm.
My next gun build is going to be a Marlin 1895 GBL 45/70 lever action, for hunting hogs and other critters.

Work? I'm retired and done with that. ThumbUp

I hunt with the Marlin 45/70 lever.....And a New England single shot 45/70- 500 Gr..
Also i have a 99f Savage [308] and Marlin lever 35.... Just for riding around with my Rhino [not hunting] a New England 45 Long Colt/410. The 45/70 kicks like a Mule, Especially the single shot.. When i'm shooting at dear/bear i don't notice the kick... But sighting it in after 4 rounds i'm done/sore...:gah:

It was used. Even though really dirty, I doubt more than 50 rounds has been put through it. Whoever owned it just didn't like cleaning. I don't like it either, but I can't STAND carrying a dirty weapon!

The plan for work...going back on the 5th. I'm dying to get out of the house, let me tell you!

I don't like shooting a 12 gauge, so I can't imagine firing a 45/70. It'd probably knock me down.

If your not careful the scope on a 45/70 will take your eye out....;)

And now a problem...

I've managed to somehow strip one of the torx screws on my grips when I was taking them off to look at the type of battery I will need to replace later. (That's a CR2032 btw, for those of you so you won't need to take your grips off to find out.)

Any ideas what I can do to get it back out? Or am I screwed? Get it? SCREWED!! :qpnmt:

(This is copied from my kimber thread so there is a better chance for others to see it.)

I already know somebody that happened to. Detached his retina. I mean, wow.

45/70's are capable of taking the largest game animals on earth, with the right loads. Everything I shoot through mine has no more recoil than a 12 gauge shotgun and all of my levers have iron sights.

I just bought another AR today, for my wife. Will buy another 45/70 next Spring.

But a 45/70 can fire loads that have more recoil than a 12 gauge, right? Or maybe that's another big game gun I'm thinking of. I'll find out for sure here in a couple of days when I go back to work.

There are some custom ammo manufacturers that offer loads that come close to a .458 Win Mag in power, around 6,000lbs of muzzle energy. One of those loads with a 540-560 grain solid will traverse the length of an African bull elephant, end to end. You won't catch me shooting those kind of loads. The 45/70 cartridge has been around for more than 140 years and is still very popular.

My Marlin lever 45/70 with 405 gr. kicks about the same as my Mossberg 12 pump.. But My LC Smith sweet 16 kicks harder.. My New England Arms 45/70 single shot 500gr Will nock you back, But it is a light rifle and heavy a lode. Sometimes its not so much the cartridge but the rifle..

That makes sense. The heavier weight will absorb some of the recoil.

I'm in trouble...

I've got an eye appointment tomorrow at 9am, and here I am with a case of the wide eye. :xzqxz: I'm up out of bed right now hoping that I'll start getting tired here in a little while. I was just laying there literally straring at the ceiling. Maybe this will help. I'm going to check and see how the NFL playoff picture has turned out.

I was hoping Cincinnati would get a bye, but they screwed that up last week in Denver. They snatched defeat right out of the jaws of victory in that game.

Nope. Last night was my Monday/Friday if you follow what I'm saying. Supposed to be off tomorrow night too, but will take O/T if it's offered.

I understand about the day off. Can't blame you for the overtime if offered. I'm just trying to get thru first week back.

Yesterday was my first day back from med leave. I was about to go stir crazy, but had mixed emotions about going back to work. I enjoyed the time with the family, but I was ready.
