People,

On my 9th bike, 3rd Ural sidecar rig.

This last Ural (2015 Gear Up) has convinced me that if I want to travel more than a few miles between repairs (3rd technical service bulletin since March; just changed out defective rocker arms 2 days ago) I need a slightly more reliable platform.

Right now eyeballing a Tri Glide. Test ride on Monday the 17th.

Gotta sell the Ural..............

Anyway, using Trike Talk as my resource and motivation.

Hey Keystone, if you see this, 549th MP Co. '77-78, 236th MP Det. '78-79. "Of the Troops and for the Troops."

Be Well,

Awesome! Always nice to run into another Nine-Five Bravo! I went to OSUT in 79 (B-12). First duty station was the 259th at WSMR. From there I went to Patrol Dog handlers course on my way to Korea. Was on orders for 2nd MP but was sent to the 728th MP BN as assigned to "The Deuce" 552nd in Pusan. Next was Ft Bliss with the 978th for 4 months, then 591st/Center MP for 3 1/2. Went to Narcotics Handlers course while I was there too. Left Bliss in 86, went to Explosive Handlers course on my way to Heidelberg. Left in 1990 due to medical reasons.

So I take it that you attended USAMPS at Fort McClellan or had it moved to Leonard Wood by then? I know that they were starting OSUT there when I left. I did BCT at Ft. Sill.

Was dog handling at Lackland? My good buddy Zorn, whom I met in Panama, was medevac'ed to WRAMC then sent to dog school at Lackland. I ended up at WRAMC later and ran into him. RIP Zorn.....

So I was 549th MP, Ft. Gulick Panama Canal zone first, alternating a week on the street with a week in the jungle. Then to WRAMC after an injury where I eventually became attached to the 236th MP detachment. That was pretty cush.

Anyway, glad to make your acquaintance, however virtually.

So a lot of responses, thanks. I am becoming more fond of the TG concept.

Do you guys hit this before work OR first thing after you get there?? :)

Yup, Ft McClellan. Move wasn't until 98 0r 99. I went to BNOC in 88 at Ft Mc too.

Building 10250 at LAFB! No idea how I can still recall the bldg. number! From what I hear those buildings were torn down years ago.

Thanks.

DO YOU OWN (have you owned) A URAL?

Loved my '05 Gear Up (it had a machine gun mount!!!), really loved my '10 Taiga.

The new one has fuel injection, disc brakes, PLASTIC STUFF. Just ain't the same.......

They are a blast to ride though, I agree. Ural + wife + dog is the best.

Just that the wife and I (haven't yet gotten a straight answer from the dog) want to go on real trips. The anticipated unreliability of the Ural rig and the fact that there is a Harley dealership or at least a Harley savvy shop every 13 miles wherever you go kinda tips the scale.

I salute your father.
