I have an appointment to see a chiropractor and was wondering if anyone here is seeing one or has seen one and is it doing any good. I know most people think they are quacks, but it looks like some doctors are embracing the practice.
I'm going to see if they can do anything for my sciatica problem. Maybe they'll even find something else wrong. :)

Gary, I've seen a chiropractor for over 30 years. I initially went because of whiplash after an accident, but stayed with it. I go when I feel the need, about once a month. I don't seem to have as many back problems as my peers, so I think it does a lot of good.

I have had Sciatica problems for years. I went this year to a Pain Management Doctor that my family doctor told me about. The PM doctor has given me 2 injections (surgically) and I feel great! They may have to be given every year or sometimes only if I screw my self doing something wrong etc. but for now, it has given me walking and standing time that I haven't had for years.... my 2 cents given...................:Coffee:

The sciatica I have is not extreme. It only effects my right thigh after a few hours of riding - that's all. No other times. When I'm off the bike = no problem.

I'm also going to try some pills, Magnilife Sciatica Relief tablets, that are suppose to help according to my pharmacist.
Anyone else have success with other OTC medications???

Oh yeah...you're not alone Gary.....have sciatic spasms for couple years now. I was referred to a sports medicine chiropractor by my personal physician. Get "tweaked" every couple months. I use a menthol patch (Icy-Hot) across my backside which really helps when riding...especially on a long trip.

I injured my back when I was 30 playing football in the street (my bad). I tried a chiropractor. At first it seemed to help but after about 6 treatments it felt worse about an hour after I left. Over the past 36 years I have seen several surgeons to try to get some relief. The last spine surgeon I saw about 18 months ago wouldn't operate. He said to live with it. Not what I wanted to hear. He did say I could try acupuncture, chiropractor, exercises or whatever seemed to work. For some people chiropractic care seems to help but if you have a major back problem I would not let one work on it. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope it works for you.

Were those cortizone shots by any chance?

If your Doctor is an M.D. he likely doesn't like them. Now, if your Doctor is a D.O. they will tell you that if you can't get in to see one then they can do it ................ and WILL. I have been to mine probably two or three times per year since I got out of the service. Hurt my neck in there but did not claim it. Bad on me.

Same there, But when I drive my truck, Within ten miles I'm in pain..
Funny thing I can do 2 hundred miles on my T/G, Or my Victory without pain??
Anyway [Doctors Advice] I started taking 4 hundred Mg Magnesium OTC.. Within a week the pain is just a slight discomfort.. Your result's might vary.....

I went to them on two different occasions. Once after a motorcycle accident in 1989 and then after a flight back injury years later. They did nothing on either occasion to help me. And MD later told me that they had even read my x-rays wrong. It appears they do a couple of "adjustments", give you a little "stimulation" and take your money.

I'm not sure of anything they do well except the spine adjustments, whatever that is. And in my experience they are not cheap. I certainly did not get what I have paid for. They are good at encouraging the patient to return time after time after time..

I had sciatica so bad that the legs would give out, so 2 wheeler was out of the question.

Tried chiropractor, pain management, epidural shots, yoga, stretching exercises, more sex, less sex (more is better), hot packs, cold packs, whatever.

Finally, an orthopedic surgeon told me the only solution was back surgery. I had visions of ending up in a wheelchair but went ahead with the procedure.

That was five years ago. After 6 months, felt pretty good so bought a trike. I now have two touring trikes in the garage (go figure) and ride almost every day. What a relief.

Really depends on the type of problem you have whether or not a chiropractor can help you. And some chiros are better than others just like MDs or dentist's. I have gone to various ones as my insurance has chanced and have had pretty good luck. I got hurt the first time trying to do too much shoveling snow in my early 20s and I'm in my mid 60s now. So they're more like an ophthalmologist than an MD.
