My Pro's and Con's for choosing Goldwing Trike vs TriGlide

Re: My Pro's and Con's for choosing Goldwing Trike vs TriGlide

I know I have said this a million times.....You just can't beat the SOUND and FEEL of a Harley trike going down the road. It just makes me feel COOL !! but I will say that the GW does ride smoother...:gah:

I formed a motorcycle group in SE Utah 8 years ago. We have around 50 bikes on two main rides per year. Last year was my first time on the GW CSC... man I love this ride. BUT, when all the HD's pull out from a stop and "get on it"..... man, I miss that part. There was nothing like my Ultra with the SE's sound when blasting through the gears. If I could find a way to start that way....

then magically, in about a mile, find my self sitting on Candy......:gah:

Just what you've been waiting for.... Two cents worth from a Suzuki driver:

I've owned four Honda 2-wheelers. Never had a problem with any of 'em. Reliable and maintainable as the day is long... Still wish I had the Shadow Phantom back. It was one heckuva nice bike...

Now I own a 2008 Suzuki Lehman Trike and it, too, is a great ride. Certainly not overpowering, but sporty and well-suited to my needs. It was a great buy at less than 12K cash which is the major reason I purchased it.

So what would I ride if the retirement budget had not been a major consideration? As a 'minimalist' kinda guy, I would be riding an HD Freewheeler.

I like the no-frills muscle profile, but in reality, there's no way we need a monthly bike payment.

And now back to your regularly scheduled Honda vs. Harley programming...

I have noticed that a lot of guys own a Goldwing Trike and a Harley bike. That's the best possible scenario, one of each, but I plan on having a Harley trike and a Gold Wing bike.

I'm pretty happy with that combo, getting the best of both worlds:D.

I cut my teeth on twins over 45 years ago. I remember the Knuckle, Pan, Shovel, Evo and now Twin Cam. I remember when I purchased a new Evo and the older HD riders would say that's no Harley. When it comes to sound I love that Shovelhead. When I purchased my first Goldwing in 2005 I still kept a Harley in the stable. If the videos are still on line- Why Victory is way above Harley it is a rude awakening of the old engine technology HD still uses. Harleys and Goldwings are so different you can't really compare the two. I have a couple friends that are HD dealers. The overheating problem on the Triglides are a real concern; Harley's lame attempts to correct is just a band aide. Its too bad. Indian doesn't have an overheating issue the same with Victory. If Indian came out with a Trike I think it would be a hit. In my opinion a Goldwing is a world class touring machine that can go 300,000 miles with little issues, superior to BMW's and everything else that you can compare them to. To compare to a Harley is not a good comparrison. Comparing HD to at least other V Twins would be a much better Comparrison.

With all that being said Harley's are cool. Their marketing and customer loyalty is unbelievable. There is no sound better than HD especially the older engines. They require more maintenence and are more expensive to own but it's worth ever penny for the pure riding experience. If I went back to a twin it would be between HD and Indian.
