Regrets Choosing Your Trike Conversion

The first trike I ever rode was mine, I was drawn to Roadsmith by the large trunk and the over all look. I have the 6 degree and IRS and while I do not know if there is a better made one out there I have no reason to look. I could not be anymore happier with my decision. I think it looks good, handles good and rides good. I hope everyone feels the same way about theirs but I am sure there are some that are not happy. I am not sure it is as much the trikes fault as it is the person trying to ride it, I have had cars that did not work with me just do to my expectation of what I wanted. Sometimes life is like a box of chocolates I guess.

I studied and tested all major brands for almost 4yrs before selecting my Hannigan.
Reasons it was best for me:
1. Low maintenance IRS which gives me a very smooth ride.
2. Extended wheel base, wide stance adds to the smooth ride.
3. Love that Whale Tail!!!
4. Weight bearing foot fairings. Took my leg cramping rider foot pegs off and rest my feet on the foot fairings with room to move them around!
5. Biggest reason is the off set rear end that aligns to the Wings drive shaft output. No radical drive shaft angle that increases U-joint stress!

I am very happy with my Road Smith kit & my installer dealer...he was the only dealer that would allow me & my wife to take a trike he had in his inventory for a test ride...in fact he make sure the test trike had a full tank of gas & he said "ride it as long as you want, I want you to be sure this is what you want"...other dealers told me "sure you can ride it...in my parking lot".

10 year ago my wife want us to trike our bike. I told to pick the one she wanted, She pick the Hannigan we are still riding it. She did it right the first time.

Nope not with the Motor Trike end at all.
Sorry to say this here. The GoldWing I find a bit lacking for a top of the line bike. Its both dated and boring. Even the F6?? or whatever number they used. It didn't thrill me and again a big disappointment for a flagship bike.
But Im sure Honda will sell a bunch just the same. Just not to me the next time.
The new Valkyrie does more for me.;)

I had researched trikes for several years and was pretty much convinced I wanted a Roadsmith. Went to Russellville, AR and rode a Roadsmith and Hannigan. Rode the Hannigan last and decided before I got it off the lot that is what I wanted. Took it home that evening. I had not ridden either prior to that but had ridden others. The Roadsmith "pitched" both the wife and I forward a bit, or at least it felt that way. I've since sat on a friends Roadsmith and it is level. I talked to the owner of Roadsmith at Wing Ding a few months after I got my Hannigan and he said the forkes were off just a bit. I told him it cost a sale. If I had it to do over again I think I would buy either with no regrets.

Liked my CSC and LOVE my Hannigan for the reasons mentioned above

I did a lot of reading on the various kits that were out there before I bought my Hannigan Gen II and 180 front. I liked the stance and look of the Gen II and the look and what people were saying about the ride of the IRS and 180 front.

What I am disappointed in was that Hannigan switched the braking system on the Gen II kits to Brimbo which I feel are under sized for the Trike. Im going through a set of pads every 6000 miles and braking isn't that great. I suspect Rotor replacement wont be that far down the road as well...... Other than the brakes, I love the kit and wouldn't have gone with any other.

Regrets

The ride and drive quality of my 2001 wing with 2011 CSC trike is great. My only problem with CSC is every time a need a part like brake pads or a half shaft I can't just get a regular automotive part and have to get it through them. I did find an automotive half shaft for a fraction of what there cost would be. Outside of that issue I'm very happy with my trike after 6 yrs and 90,000 miles.

Axle half shafts for pre 2012 CSC conversion kits are 1997 Chevy cavalier shafts. The rear axle hub bearings are from same vehicle as well. This info came straight from CSC when I needed a rear hub bearing. For only a few dollars more I got my bearing from CSC.

Regrets??

Had a Hannigan 1500 and have a Roadsmith 1800, both were great, biggest issues were what the P.O.'s attempted in improvements!

Roadsmith is all I ever rode, and (that was my own)............. I'm very happy with the outcome........... But will try out other brands while at the Americade next week...........

When I went to the builder of my trike, I just took the builders recommendation, which was the best of three, it was in the dead of winter (13* deg's with a windchill of -3* outside) so I didn't get a chance to test out any....others

In 2003 I went to sturgis South Dakota bike week and road tested a trike (NO IDEA WHAT BRAND) and totally hated my first test ride, swore, I'd never get a trike, it totally took the wind right out of my sails...

But now I'm actually loving every minute riding it..........

CSC TRike

Have 2014 CSC trike. Like any thing there are some thing here and there that there could be improvements' on. I am not an impulse buyer and had looked at trikes for many years. We almost bought a trike 4 years ago but bough a different house in stead. So the trike was but on hold for a while. We were enjoying our 06 wing. I looked at most of the major manufactures of trikes and like the suspension on the CSC trike.

I also had long conversations with the Factory about their trikes they we very friendly and knowledgeable. I had talked to other manufactures I didn't get the same feeling and response. I liked that the factory is only 4 hours away from our home and the trike could be assembled there. But it pretty much a Chevy, Ford, Chrysler thing every on has there own view on things.

I know living her in the hills of Pa the only thing I would of had added is the Parking Brake. Good Luck do your home work and look at the reverse trikes. That the only other thing I wish I may of put more research in. I have a friend that has the Motor Trike Prowler and loves it. Again there is more than one company making them.
