Tire Went Flat!

With about 15 miles before I got home, steering became hard and was pulling to the right. I did of course make it home and looking at my front tire, it was obviously low. I always check air pressure before I hit the road as I have a 150 mile roundtrip commute everyday. After parking, I checked the pressure and had a big fat 0 PSI! Thankfully I'm running the BattleAx so the stiff sidewalls kinda saved me. I did not see any punctures and am concerned how this could happen. I pumped another 41 #s into it and hope it's all still there in the morning.

Any ideas?

Are you using Dynabeads? One could have stuck the valve open. Leaking valve stem since you check it every day?

Did you do soapy water test to look for leak?

If you have an oem valve stem check the base of the stem. Also check in between the tread of the tire. Bridgestone had a few that would crack inside of the tread. Ask me how I know.

If it went flat one day it will do it again for sure if you don't locate the cause. Those valve stems on Gen I Wings were known for problems. If there is no sign of a puncture that stem is probably the cause. Plus, if it is the stem it could hold air for a day or two, depending on how the bike and tire is sitting and then go flat again. Just IMHO.

When I had my 2004 I pulled the stock stem out of the bike and installed a regular old car tire stem and never had a problem again. Just saying.

Well, it lost 10 psi overnight. I will be doing the soapy water test and trust me, I will not be riding it until the issue is resolved.
Is it the Schrader valve or the rubber seal in the wheel that goes bad?

could be either one or both,or a dyna bead stuck in the valve. I really didn't worry about that, I just replaced the whole valve stem. The reason I didn't do with a a car type valve is that I wanted an angled valve stem and couldn't find one in the car type.

Heres what I put on mine,no issues whatsoever and fits the bill quite well.

Valve Stem or Someone messing with you. If it is valve stem, just about all you have to do is push it to one side or the other and it more than likely will let the air out with gusto. Don't try that if you are not planning on a second flat tire and no way to pump it back up.

The ole soapy sudsy test revealed a crack in the rubber seal of the valve stem.

So, I guess I'll be removing the wheel and taking it to the shop to be repaired. :gah:

Site indicates they will not work on Goldwings without modification. Thanks though ThumbUp
