no head lites

Sometimes times headlines won't come on, no hi or low.just may 1st a mounth.after a while they start working mite not act up for weeks.driving me nutsl.had a technical look at them but they came on for him.any ideas.thanks happy trails:

Somewhere back in one of my mind's crevasses I seem to recall a dirty start switch causing that problem. It may be hanging when you release the button on very rare occasions. <br />

Looking at the wire diagram it looks like you'd have hi or low beam at least if the start switch was closing when released. Spray the dickens out of the switch with WD40 or spray silicone lube (switch itself is way back in there) and work the button at the same time. Unfortunately you won't know if you've fixed it unless it problem never returns. <img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" /> <img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" />

I agreewith gold rush,I had the same problem after riding in the rain just spray with wd 40.

</div>You might have to flood that area inside the housing pretty much so I'd cover up the plastic with lots of something that will protect it. I don't remember which switch went goofy on me but flooding the area worked. Several years ago I took that whole mess apart to pull, clean, and lube the reverse switch. It took a couple hours. <img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" /><img src="images/smilies/poof.gif" border="0" alt="" title="poof" class="inlineimg" /> Flooding is MUCH easier.......

An earlier post suggested WD40 or a Silicone spray!

WD40 stays tacky and attracts dust, ultimately compounding the problem.

The silicone sprays I have, dry yet retain lubrication and do not attract dust.

</div>Bingo!!! That's why I suggested using it. Some people are hung up on using WD40 still so it's an alternative. I personally have used spray silicone instead of WD40 for maybe 30 years now.... (old RVer's trick)

Thanks to all, jingle switch lites came on .getting silicone spray today .Hope that fixes it .bummed me out not to ride at nite.fav time to ride when stressed or day got too much bs. Happy trails to all

I would recommend a spray can of Electrical Contact Cleaner. Much safer.

Glad you pointed that out Mick. I guess I've never run into that issue so you've done us ALL a HUGE favor!! :xszpv: :xszpv:

For those that prefer contact cleaner you might also benefit from Mick's warning. I've had some contact cleaners total melt a switch. As a very minimum make sure the cleaner you use has some lubrication quality... Again a BIG plus for Silicone. ThumbUp ThumbUp

Best stuff to get I tuner cleaner at Radio Shack. Also contact cleaner that is safe for plastic.
