LED lights on the rear of TriGlide

JohnC In your pics I don't notice a big change in the tur-pak LEDs with the brake lights on and off. Are those dual intensity LEDs?

Trikermutha what do you mean "affect the security system"?
I Should have stated the turn signal flashers.. when you turn on the signal flashers they would flash super fast.Had to install a load equalizer when replacing rear turn signal lighting due to the low resistance in the LED lighting..

It would affect the secuirty system too if the resister was not built into the LED or load equalizer installed..I was looking at the superbright LED bulbs down the road..

SHOULD HAVE STATED TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS FLASHING TOO FAST NOT THE SECURITY SYSTEM :Coffee:

I tried the bulbs off e-bay ..didn't like them .Then I looked up Ride Time and bought the tourpak lights and the side marker light they work very nice added the HD conversion kit so they are turn and marker/brake it is a nice combo .Also Keith at Ride Time is an awesome guy.Am running the HD led tails on the fenders all in all brightens it up pretty good.

Since I converted the taillights on my TriGlide to LED, including the addition of a high-mount third brake light, I wanted to do something about the bulbs in the tourpak. The OEM tourpak bulbs are just your standard run-of-the-mill 1157 bulbs, acting as additional running lights and brake lights but lacking the performance and brightness of LED bulbs.

Researching this a bit, I found you can buy specially-designed boards consisting of an array of LEDs. Although they are nice, they have several drawbacks in my opinion: (1) They are quite expensive, (2) they require a bit of disassembly (removing the lenses from the tourpak which can be messy), and (3) they don't provide much light when looking at the bike from the sides.

So I looked around for a plug-and-play replacement and found these on eBay. These bulbs have 27 high-intensity "surface-mount device" (SMD) LEDs with six facing directly to the rear and the other 21 arranged in layers around the bulb. This produces light that's visible from all angles.

Although they took a while getting here, being shipped directly from China, I'm very satisfied with them. They produce very bright red illumination to the tourpak, especially from the sides, and being LED technology they provide that "instant on" performance as expected from an LED bulb. They are true plug-and-play and have no clearance issues whatsoever. They cost $23 for two bulbs with free shipping. You may be able to find similar bulbs in your local AutoZone, Pep Boys, or other automotive parts retailer but I never took the time to drive all over town to see.

I think this is a good bang-for-your-buck way to go without going overboard on cost.

It now being a while since you installed these lights, how are they standing up? I think I have located the same type online and they only have red coloured ones, the ones you purchased were they red or white? I was only wondering as if they were red and going through the red lens on the tour pack would the level of light be diminished.

That would be interesting to find out which way would be brighter.

The red color will be brighter with a red bulb light. White light will wash out the color of the lense unless the the lense is thick enough to absorb the white. Since most HD lenses are thin the red bulb would be the better choice.

I think the HyperLites are a better solution then the Strobinator. They are way cheaper and you don't have to drill any holes and hook is is a piece of cake - even I could do it and I'm all thumbs.

Just ordered the LED trunk mount light bar from Chrome Glow and will install it at the same time I do the tourpak lift from TGlide Stuff. I installed the lift brackets first, which I REALLY like and waited to see if I wanted to do the tourpak. Should have done them both at the same time.

I'm hoping that by raising the tourpak, the LED bar will easily fit underneath and be clearly visible. I'm going to set it up so it only works as a brake light/no running light because I want it to "pop out" when I hit the brakes. Hope to get it done next weekend and I'll post pictures of how it works out.
