A local seller has posted this trike for sale: A 1997 Goldwing with a MotorTrike kit. The bike as about 40,000 miles and it was triked in 2005, with about 6,000 miles being as a trike. Doesn't look like it has easy steer. The kit is bare bones. No running boards, doo dads, or chrome extras on it or the bike. It looks in good condition from the pics. I haven't ridden but will take a look tomorrow. He wants $14,500, which seems rather high considering the blue book value of the bike itself, about $6,800 at a dealer in excellent condition and the trike kit being 8-years old. So on face value, is this a good price?
I've been riding for about 46 years, so I know a bit about motorcycles, but this would be my first trike and GoldWing.
Many thanks.

For reference, a NEW MT kit installed in my area is about $13-$15k including rake - w/o boards. As stated, trikes in good shape, hold their value. Sounds like it might be a good deal - a little "haggling" never hurts. I recently saw an '88 Wing, in nice condition, asking $13.5 at a local shop. I don't don't remember the exact mileage, but it I think it was in the 50-60k range. Let us know how you make out.

If it is in very good condition, it sounds within reasonable range. I would still try to beat them up on the price, it is kinda pre-season, and money is tight right now-also there a tons of Honda trikes for sale on the bay, craig's,etc. These are all good excuses for a better deal to buy it right now. Good luck-hope it turns out well for you!:D

Many thanks for the input.

In my cheapshake mode, I was figuring the bike part was worth about $4,500 and the trike part about $4,500---a far distance from the $14,500 he is asking...I might give it a shot at around $8,000 to $9,000 and see what happens. I was hoping to get a newer Wing to get the fuel injection--carbs aren't fun-- and I've been spoiled with the fuel injectors on my VTX 1800.

If you could get it for 8-9 K, that would be a steal-you could turn around and sell it for profit!ThumbUp

I don't think you will find much of a trike for less than 12,000. I have a friend that has a 94 with Motortrike kit with rake and some extra stuff with 65,000 that he is asking 15,500 for and I bet he will get it. Trikes are so expensive that even older models, especially Goldwings, sell. Sold my 92 two years ago with 68,000 with some extras for 16,500 to the first person that looked at it. Bought a 2002 loaded Goldwing with Motortrike the same day, with aqua shield, rake, cb, 6 cd changer, and about every piece of chrome made for 21,500 had 32,000 miles on it.

I've been looking for about a year and it's been sticker shock for most deals. Just surprised that a 16-year-old motorcycle with 40,000 miles and an extra wheel can command so much $. I guess it's a testiment to the Goldwing.
