gas fumes

I have a 2009 Tri-glide with some minor mods, ie: exhaust, cam, a/c. My problem is the last few times that I have ridden it, after parking it in the garage, I'll come back outside and smell gas fumes. I can't find any obvious fuel leaks. I realize that the fuel system is under constant pressure, possibly a check valve leaking? Has anyone else noticed this?:Shrug:

Noticed the gas fumes on my previous '09 after topping off the gas tank and immediately parking in the garage after a day ride...now I make sure I don't "top off"...takes awhile for fumes to dissipate.

The only thing I can think of is, maybe it is running slightly rich-and you can smell unburned fuel in the throttle bodies. What Barb said makes sense also.:Shrug:

:Agree: Could be what you said or some fuel that came from the overflow hose if he gassed up before putting it away.

Don't the Harleys normally run a bit rich for a cooling? Ride behind one in a group ride and you will be aware.

No, quite the opposite. They are tuned running lean to meet SMOG requirements. That's why some are adding tuners to richen up the mixture and cool down the scoot.

+1 what screwball said, their running in the 14.6 and leaner range which is pretty lean. There are spots where 17.1 afr hasn't been unheard of, now thats big time lean.

Mine does the same thing, stealer said it was a loose vent hose. Still does it sometimes. Don't smoke in the garage. :NoJoke:

If the weather is warm, do not completely fill your tank. The fuel is generally cooler, being stored underground, and will expand in your tank as it warms, causing the fuel to vent out.
