Just changed my GPS to a Garmin 550 which touts the Bluetooth capability.

I have a compatible cell phone, but can only receive incoming calls. I have no ablility (electronically speaking) to talk to the other party.

I have a wired headset made by the J&M corporation. They tell me for only $589.00 they can sell me a dongle that will allow two way bluetooth communications.

I really do not want to talk for that kind of money. I will pull off the road, but when I get an incoming call, it is very inconvenient to the caller that I cannot acknowledge their call. They are left hanging.

Just bought the wired speakers and brand new helmet and would like to keep those in tact.

Is there a less gouging alternative while still keeping my current helmet and wired connection?

Why do you need to take calls when riding?
Pulling over is the safest if the call is that
important. I ride to get away from calls

Give Robert at Overby's Two Wheel Sound ( Overby's Two Wheel Sound - America's Motorcycle Audio Specialist - Home ) a call. If there is some other way I'd bet he knows. I have bought stuff from them for years.

Good People!!

The solution is to turn the phone off and check messages at the end of the day or next week, whichever you prefer. I choose the latter!

Big plus one on that. Kudo's go to zeman 1 for his comment as well.

Not singling you out Stephen but I can't let this pass any longer.

There are some of us, me for one, that truly need to stay in contact with the world even while we enjoy our rides. These wise guy judgmental comments about phone usage are uncalled for and to be honest down right asinine.

If you have valid input to the man's question then provide it. If not then keep you view to yourself in this thread. If you wish to tell the world it is not smart in you humble opinion to ride and talk on the phone start your own thread.

Thanks GR, I agree.

Working for an oilfield parts supplier, I'm on call two weekends a month, I'm off usually the two such as last weekend and this one. Rain. :)

So I need phone coms if I am to enjoy my ride. I'm about to spend good $ for some type set up, and will watch this thread for ideas.

I see, I should just shut up if I feel someone is being unsafe while riding. That's a new one on me.

I see both sides of this conversation. I dodge and follow behind folks everyday using cell phones. I see a vehicle swerving or all over the road, you can bet it's a cell phone user. I've been using them for years. Traveling the roads while working for AT&T I had one of the 1st mobile phones that weighed about 15 lbs.

I learned quick there is something about them that requires more attention than most folks realize. This attention takes your attention off your driving.

So, for safety, answer the phone if you must, then find a safe place to pull over and continue your conversation. It's just a matter of time and they WILL be outlawed while driving.

Wow... we now have an official safety officer willing to hand out safety lectures when he sees his standards of safety violated! Thanks for volunteering! Not everyone would feel comfortable in that position bwhahahaha Geesh, would make me think twice about asking about anything audio related. I supposed having headsets on to listen to cowboy music would be unsafe as well? Can I get a safety reading on this?

Hey Comanche, We use the Sena headsets model SMH10, I prefer this as I had said on a past thread " sure beats turnin around and shouting over wind noise". That was not safe. As for phone calls I will pull over.ThumbUp
