Never seen a Dude that just HATES BowTies with such a "Passion". :D
Quite a Dedication & Resolve.
I have similar disdain and am equally as incensed and zealously motivated by Chipped-Shoulders myself...

We all have our "triggers" huh??
Oh well, Crap happens.

All that aside,,,

I have an 04 Road Star and love it as well as a Royal Star Venture and love both of them
Why didn't you trike the R*?

With my legs the RoadStar triked the vibration would be an issue.
Which is why I bought the Valk.
Which at the time I had as much no how of as I do now the current GW.......none.
When I bought the Valk my impression was it is a stripped down version of the 1500 GW.
Couldnt have been more wrong.

I hate bowties with a passion.
But thats another story altogether.

Thanks for the name.
I will look him up.

Those guys are all in central Florida.
Im way south of them a few 100 miles.
I did my reasearch with the Valk.
I had to use ATI as hes the only one who makes a reverse.
I have some locals who would have been able to assemble ATIs kit.
But its was all in the timing.

I was willing to wait a few weeks.
Not the several months they all said they would need.
A friend who did his R* with ATI had tons of troubles with his installer and him being a few hundred miles away from each other.
My issue was with needing a local shop to assemble it.
My wrenching days are over.
3 or 4 years ago Id have taken it on.
Cant anymore.

Changing the oil on the GW was a chore.
Took me over an hour today just to get the trike up on a few stands all of a foot off the ground today..........Then I had to remove the front cowl to get the filter off.
Not something Im in any hurry to repeat.

Guys Im stuck with this trike for the time being.
I will adjust to it or get rid of it.
For what it is its a fine machine.
Might not be my cup of tea today.
But some machines grow on me some I have zero attachment to.
As for group ridng or sunday brunches.
With me thats never going to happen again.
Been there done that boooooooring.
For me.

If I travel its by myself with myself to get away from people.
Not to spend time with them.
I have no family, no kids, no resposibility and like it this way.
All my bikes have been single seaters for a reason.
No seat no one can ask for a ride.

Yes people do ask tons of questions with this trike.
I park the trike next to the entrance to my store on the sidewalk in a very busy shopping plaza.
Trikes are not all that common not here in my part of the world.

I would have to beg to differ on that. Being a former owner of a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate the model IS, in fact, a stripped version of the 1500 Wing. Save for the fuel injection.

Personally, I was told by many Wing riders that the Valkyrie was a little easier to do maintenance on as there was a lot less plastic and the lack of fuel injection.

And, yes, I did do my own preventative maintenance on it. Bigger issues were covered under the warranty. But I never recall ever having to use the warranty to cover anything.

Ahhhhh...the bad breaks of trike ownership, or any bike for that matter. ((if you consider doing you own maintenance a bad break))

I'll take the extra time to change mine out and put the savings into my pocket instead of paying a, sometimes, overpriced bike shop to do it.

My issue with changing the oil filter was simple.
Remove the front cover stuff and do it cleanly.
Or mop up oil coming out of the filter all over the tupperware latter.
The filter on my bikes tucked uo and more inside the wrap around piece then out of it.
Might not be the same on all trikes but on mine would have resulted in an oily mess.

The main difference between the 2 1500s is in the gearing.
The Wing made more for leasurely riding the Valk being more of a hot roded version.
Maintence seems more or less the same.
A PIA to take care of some normally simple items.
Air filter changes are a big PIA on both models.
The IS alot more electronics.
My bike is a Standard.
Fairly easy on most normal maintence.
The carbs werent an issue for me.
I prefere a carbed bike to be honest.
More owner adjustabitily.

OOPS...my bad. EDITED POST.....

If memory serves me. Loosening the rear tank bolt, lifting the tank to get the clearance, and your access is right there. I can't recall removing the entire tank. Usually just put something underneath to hold it up.

Time consuming, yes, PIA, not really......

80,000 miles on that Valkyrie in a years time so I changed the air cleaner multiple times.

The reason the filter is all tucked up under that cowling is to keep road debris from hitting it and, possibly, puncturing it. Not a good scenario when you are heading down the highway. It wouldn't be a lot of fun trying to locate a bike shop on a Sunday afternoon ((or any day for that matter)) that's 1)OPEN and 2)has a filter to fit.

Robert Doerr seats is under a two hour ride from Delray Beach. That's not even a day trip. Here's the web site in case you happened to have looked up the wrong place as there is a similar shop in Texas.......

Robert Doerr - Motorcycle Seats

He seems to be the logical solution to the seat issue.
I took the seat off yesterday while I was playing around.
I cant see any reason it cant have the high back removes and recovered.
The speakers arm rests and even the small trunk can go too.

But theres a new rub, or actually leak to take care of.
The right side CV joint and the axle is covered with goop<rear end fluid>along with the rear end its self all gooped up.........sigh.
I knew things were to good to go right for long............sigh.

Well, contrary to what you posted about the cleaning of your bikes. I am extremely anal about the upkeep and cleanliness of any of my vehicles. When clean, all the time, it makes it a LOT easier to spot possible trouble. Leaks, oozing that sort of thing.

Obviously, you aren't happy with this machine. Instead of going to the expense and trouble of a full customization, perhaps you would be much better off selling it as is and then spending your time actually shopping around seriously for one that actually fits your needs.

I will look into this guy for sure.
I took the seat off partially yesterday along with all the other stuff I tried to do.
I cant see reapolstering it as being to difficult.
The speakers and trunk can go too if need be.

Before you start to do a full on custom job on your trike you may want to rethink things. You are already in a specific group of riders. Resale on one that's been customized they way you are talking about would be tough if you ever decide to sell it. Most folks that want a Goldwing trike want the trunk, rear speakers, backrest. All of the extra amenities.

There are a LOT of companies and trike designs that would likely suit you much better. Here are a few options to consider. Most have a much lower seat height and would be a LOT easier to get your leg over.

Again, shopping around and doing research is essential. Anyone that drops 20 to 30 grand ((or more)) without doing their "homework" is, frankly, making an asinine decision and will likely not be happy with their choice.

Check out some of these and even do a few online searches. I am SURE you can find a trike and a company that can make one to fit.

That was meant as a way for you to say what you are doing with it now.

Instead I get a comment such as this.........

I am amazed that you are still getting any responses from any of your other posts.

Its collecting dust.
So what????
Toys are to be played with.
Then discarded.

A direct question gets a direct answer.
It would seem we have isssues only with each other here.
I just posted the pics so that you could see what a wreck I started with
and how it sits now.
7 months worth of work for me.
Its totally rebuilt with mostley new internals when available.
Used parts if thats all I could get.
The Valk was a project just something to keep me busy.
I was going to trike it.
Now Im doing nothing more to it or with it.
Its as done as Im going with it.
It is indeed just collecting dust now.
I may try to get rid of it in the spring for a low price.
Or just keep it for having its sake.
Ridden once a week so it doesnt go stale.
If I do end up putting it up for sale in the spring. It will be well under what it is actually worth as a toy for someone else to repaint which is all it really needs at this point.

As I said in the message I sent you. You are now on my ignore list so any posts you make are a waste of time.

I'll waste no more of my time trying to help someone that, obviously, doesn't want or appreciate it.

Seat Problems with Backrest

Maybe the seat off a new F6B will work. Same Chassis and frame but a single with a Pillion? Bet it would fit on any Goldwing. I have to wear a brace on my left leg and I mount from the right side and lift my inop leg over the seat. No problem for me. I love my wing '10 with an '11 CSC Cobra XL kit. Sure I'm still adding things and that's the way I want to do it. No manufacturer will please everyone but we make adjustments to compensate for that. I have ridden Honda's since the '50's and never had a problem with them. No matter where we ride I always knew that the Honda would get me back home. That's my opinion after 60 yrs of riding. Best of luck with your trike.
