Rear brake rotor

I have my TG in for the 10K service. Dealer just called me and said the rear brake rotor is shot and I need a new one at $150.
Since I use my front brake 90% of the time, I thought something sounds fishy.
What kind of wear/milage do you guys normally get on the rear?

Front ones are just fine.

WOW! ony 4k- I'd be getting a new one every 2 months.:)

2012

It just seems odd since I rarely use the rear.

My DFT single rear rotor is 69,000 right now . Just repadded it. Looks good. Some dealers , cars as well , will replace or resurface a rotor if it has the slightest scratch.

At about 8,000 miles I had my dealer look at my rotors. I was not happy with the way they were wearing. I gave up using the e-brake a long time ago and don't use the rear for aggressive stopping. He agreed that something didn't look right and at my 10K service had the pads and rotors replaced under warranty. I will be keeping an eye on them and at the first sign of uneven wear we'll do it all again. I was actually surprised that they replaced them under warranty.

I had 17,000 miles on the rear brakes of my 2010 and there was 25,000 miles on my dads 09 when I installed new Lyndall gold pads, the factory pads still had some material left to go. The rotors are grooved some what like most folks have been having, hasn't caused any issues. If the rotors are shot at 10K I'd want to see it for myself, sounds like BS to me.

I forgot to ask about the pads because I was so upset. Since I rarely use my rear brakes, I'd assume they were like new.

Time to go to the tavern for a pint.:gah:

Dealer just called and said my bike is ready. I called back and talked to the service manage. I asked what the problem was with the rotor since I didn't hear back from the tech. He said he looked at the rotor and it looked good to him so they went ahead and put on the free pads and signed off on it. I pick it up tonight.

Free is a great word, glad things worked out in your favor.

Just an update. I picked up the TG last night and checked to make sure they installed the rear tire backwards-they did. I also had those Centramatic wheel balancers put on. On the ride home it did seem smoother with no vibes at all at the grips. Maybe there's something to this wheel balancing thing after all.
Only thing I have to do is grind the end of my disk locks about 1/16".

I wonder if they think a few light grooves means "wornout" to the dealer, "car style rotors" groove up slightly right after install depending on pads etc...Did they measure the thickness?.... Delta what dealer do you use? I just bought my '12 at Monadnock but I'd rather use someone closer for service and/or warranty issues...

Update. While cleaning my wheels Sunday I noticed one of the rear tires had a dime size bulge in the sidewall. Also the front wheel was a bit hard to turn. Took bike back to the dealer Monday and they are going to order a new tire. The pistons in the calipers were stuck. Dealer fixed.
My only concern now is the milage difference between the 2 rear tires. There will be 10K between them. I was hoping I would be changing both tires at the same time.

Screwball, the pads and a rear tire were free with my VIP prepaid service contract.

Centramatic balances still seem to be working, but I've only traveled about 30 miles on them so far. I need to get out on the highway and see how they do there.

Bulging of the sidewall..I am wondering are you running low tire pressure on the rears like others are??

Usually if tires are low on air pressure tend to have tire problems??
