It is 71 today in Kansas City. Took my bike in for a quick adjustment under warranty. Bought a couple of St Pattys day t-shirts. They found a leak in the inner primary. Same place they repaired a while back. I only have 4200 miles on this trike. I am getting a little concerned that Harley is revisiting the good old, bad old days of marking their spot. At least the warranty covers it, and the service manager took me home. Good customer service....bad reliability, so far.

I had a recurring inner primary leak on my first trike, an '02 HD with Lehman kit. It was repaired literally five times by an HD dealer. All five times the leak returned. Finally took it to an independent mechanic who discovered the inner primary cover itself was warped. He placed it on a marble table top and found the cover would rock from side to side. He replaced the cover and the gasket. Never a problem after that.

Wow. Makes ya wonder huh?

I took mine if for the first service three weeks ago and to to have the alarm and siren installed then went for a short ride afterwards. Two days later I noticed 4 coin sized spots under the front end. I freaked out, grabbed my flashlight and poked and prodded and saw a couple spots here and there, oil run marks in a couple places. Figured I would keep cool about it, mentioned it to the service manager and he said the next time I was in (to install the alarm they forgot to order) they would clean it up, probably just overflow and spillage during the change.

I just shook my head. I mean, c'mon! Show us the same respect we would show you and yours.

Makes me wonder sometimes.

Aside from a couple seals and a gasket there isn't much to cause a leak. Makes me wonder if they took some short cuts when they repaired it the 1st time. I've had a couple of them apart to change the transmission sprocket and both of them have zero leaks after a year and 7 - 10,000 miles. Another famous place for them to leak is from the shift shaft that comes out of the transmission. My 06 Ultra has leaked from that area twice in 35,000 miles. The 1st time it was taken care of under warranty and I just replaced the seal for the 2nd time this winter while I had the engine out.

Is it the inner primary or just migrating from someplace else??

Has your oil pan bolts been checked yet??

Just a Thought

good Luck

Just wanted to give you a heads up about Siren 2. There is now a Tri Glide model available that sets properly. HD has not given the dealers a memo on this yet. Had one installed yesterday and WPB HD called Mich.when it did not work properly. Now they have ordered the correct version. I guess the other one would work but requires In gear out of gear sequence to work,Ray

Harley Davidson = John deere only a Deere is way more dependable! ThumbUp

I had the manifold for the oil cooler, the transmission, and the oil pan all leaking on mine that started around 10,000 miles. After three trips to the dealer they finally got them all fixed. The bolts were loose and the gasket had blown out on the manifold for the oil cooler. They repaired this three times before it quit leaking. The bolts around the transmission were all loose. The bolts on the oil pan were finger tight. Tightening these bolts stopped those leaks. Now 16,000 miles and no leaks.

I get the feeling the oil cooler adapter is a frequent failure item because yours isn't the 1st one I've heard of or dealt with. The one on my dads 09 started leaking last year, I replaced the gasket with no luck. I ended up replacing the whole adapter to get the leak to stop. It looks like the one on my 2010 is starting to seep a little, I'll replace it with a Jagg adapter when it gets bad enough.

Just wanted to give you a heads up about Siren 2. T,Ray

Funny you should bring that up Ray, had to go back a third time for the siren. See I had the pager from my RKC but the pager requires the siren to work. So the alarm by itself was important but I wanted the siren too. Well, the alarm was fine, but not with the siren. Figured if they couldn't get it on try number three I would say screw it and get all my money back. But it works perfectly now. I bought a enclosed trailer for extended length vacations so I would have a garage for my baby but when we go away for just the weekend over-nighter's a little extra piece of mind helps us sleep better.

But thanks for the heads up!

I disagree! I'm on my 8th HD in 30 years. All of them have been very reliable. My wife's on her 2nd Trike with no problems. Got several friends that will say the same.

Do you even own a Harley? If so why?

They tightened the oil temp sensor. Checked oil pan bolts. Checked inner primary. Said it could have been old oil. We had snow here today so they couldn't do a road test. They said that they promise they will make it stop leaking. So far, at least they are trying!

Hey msocko3,
So you buy the Jagg cooler and still need an adapter?
Rob

I'm using the adapter that came with the Triglide for the Jagg cooler. It is looking like my factory installed adapter is starting to leak around the gasket area. When I starts leaking bad enough I'm going to replace the factory adapter with a Jagg adapter.

I own a 2010 Ultra Classic... Why you asked...it looks good!

Last time I checked the basic technology on my HD was developed around the turn of the century!!!

If I had to get a loved one to a hospital and it was a matter of life and death.. i'd take my Goldwing. That's a fact! I only buy American cars now a days but when it come to bikes the Goldwing is light years a head of the Harley.. That too is a fact! ThumbUp

I dont think that a gold wing is light years ahead..

There are plenty on bike manufacturers out that that have dam great engineering.
