Yikes! Why Me??.......

Just had the reverse drop in while riding a few days back!!

Here's the story...
Coming to a roundabout in heavy traffic and next minute Bang! and trike shuts off dead on the spot :AGGHH: Have to wait for husband to turn around and come back to help me move it to the side of the road.[why me] Nice traffic jam, thankfully the guy behind me was in a work truck and he put on his roof amber light. [The bang was the fuel being used up... nice flames out the exhaust people said]
Husband starts checking it over, then says" Crap, the bolt is missing out of the reverse lever and it dropped into reverse while running Glad you weren't on the freeway !!
Large amount of zip-ties to hold lever up and I carefully ride it home. Ring my dealer [other side of Australia] and tell them what happened. He tells me he's never heard of anything like that and was concerned about my gearbox. He's concerned!! How does he think I feel.
They contact Motortrike in USA.... and they've never heard of it happening [why me] Whole new reverse lever and housing sent over. Go to my dealer here in Western Australia and have it serviced and reverse arm fitted. Ride home, put it in reverse to turn it around, and :AGGHH::AGGHH: noise!!!
Gearbox damaged.
So now waiting for phone calls back and forth between H-D dealers' and Motortrike... and looks like I'll be without my trike for several weeks [can't order parts till they take a look]
Why Me??????

Oh No! I can feel your frustration from here, and I don't blame you!
But on the other hand, I am incredibly thankful this didn't happen at high speed or in an even busier location. The trike can (and will) be mended, but you would be harder to repair!

When was your trike conversion/reverse installation done? If your conversion was done previous to 2012, your kit would most likely have a champion reverse gear on it (unless your local dealer uses another brand). Motor Trike didn't have their own reverse until 2012 so this may be an issue that needs to be taken up with Champion concerning the issue.

My conversion was done May last year.... so it is a Champion. I'm leaving it to the dealer to sort out, as it's warranty work.

Glad your ok and be glad its warrenty work or you'd be out a couple thousand on new tranny
