Would I be happy going from Goldwing to Venture

I have been riding goldwings for several yrs. with the last two being trikes. My present ride is an 1800 goldwing trike. My wife and I ride two up most of the time and pull a loaded Cyclemax cm 2000 trailer about 5000 miles each yr. We average close to 10,000 miles each summer total with some of that being mountains. Most of our riding is on secondary roads. I have no experience with the Royal Star and would appreciate some input. Do you think the RS would have enough power for my style of riding? I am afraid that the 1800s power has spoiled me but I sure like the looks of the RS Hannigan trike.
 
Just wondering why the switch? I myself will go for the RSV everytime :10:
why not just do the Hannigan on the goldwing? that is one sharp looking ride as well.

Given the fact that the Wing is a true "Touring" class bike and the RSV a large "Cruiser" class, I highly suggest you ride one. I personally like them both and each is very tried and proven. The operational dynamic of each is quite different not only due to them being of 2 different classes but also in handling, performance, engine-tranny design and characteristics, and so on etc etc... Way too individually subjective to be even close to a definitive cookie-cutter answer.
You won't know (everyone else's opinions and biases) until you ask,,,
and you really won't know (the Correct answer for YOU) until you ride. Enjoy your research.
 
GOLDWING! Harley is nice, Yamaha is nice, Kawi is nice.. As a matter of fact all Bikes, trikes and sidecars are nice. Goldwing is for riding long and far. It passes trucks much better than any other none sport bike out there when converted to a trike. the ride is great and it's no slouch in the turns if you know how to ride it.

My vote is Goldwing all the way followed by a conversion Ultra classic and than a Kawi 1700 conversion. BMW's are nice but, they just don't have the market for trikes yet like the other major brands.

Mind you these are just my opinions there is no true science behind my picks.. just 41 years of riding stuff with a motor and two wheels!
 
Since you already have a Wing I think you'll be better off to either convert what you have or trade for another triked Wing. Of course until you ride a Venture for compairision you won't know for sure how they compair. While I own a Venture myself I do think the Wings have the edge here when we talk of trikes. That said I enjoy my bike as it fits my needs very well. A ton of companies offer conversions for Wings as well.

My wife & I have only put about 1000 miles on our first trike which is a Yamaha Venture Royale & because of her back she had to quit riding our dresser. But I wished I could have afforded a Wing simply because of the ride they offer compared to all the others. She can ride w/ me now on the Yammi but still suffers a little when she does. Thought about trying to change my rear suspension to ride like a wing but found out most of the wings, if not all, are independent rear suspension & the Venture trike we have has a regular ford rear differential. Hope this helps any as far as having one more input. (If I could @ all, I would go to a wing in a second!)

The 2nd gen Venture has two options, Triwing and Hannigan. The Triwing is solid axle like yours has but the Hannigan has independent rear suspension. There is a considerable price difference between the two. Triwing is also the only available kit for 1st gen Ventures.

There is quite a difference between the 1st and 2nd generation Ventures, 2 or 3 wheels, and some is good, some is not as good. The 1st gen's have more available power and handle more like a sports bike but the 2nd gen is a lot more comfortable to ride. As far as Wing vs RSV trike, you just have to ride them both and decide. I personally find the RSV more comfortable.

If you move your trunk back a few inches it will give your wife a bit more room. I would also suggest a pair of armrests as well. You want armrests that fold up rather than swing out; Carbon_one may be able to help you out there as he makes a great pair of armrests! Try a sheepskin and/or gel pack on her seat too!
 
I don't think you was replying to me but I'm still looking for ways to make my 1st generation Yamaha Venture motortrike ride better. It already has the folding armrests but will try to figure out how to move the trunk farther back. Our trunk doesn't sit right on top of the rear part of the trike like others do as they left the original tail light where it was when they triked it so the light is between the top trunk & the top of the bottom trunk. I.ll look & see how we may move it back. Also, we do want to get a cushion like you suggested!

lvsloan go to Venturers.org and look in their tech pages. It will tell you how to relocate your trunk. In looking at the picture of your bike it appears that you have the original 1st gen rack under your trunk so the information should apply.
 
Thanks Pegasus1300! I went there but only found articles mentioning the trunk upgrade due to one that has cracked but somehow, missed or couldn't find an article explaining how to move it back some. Am staying glued to this site as I feel right at home learning all the info everyone has given me. THANKS ALL! Will keep searching & working to improve my Yamaha trike in areas such as this & will soon be looking for ways to improve the gas mileage & exhaust sound the poorboy way! LOL!:D
 
Find the seating position on our '09 RSV Hannigan trike to be very comfortable. Contrary to Hannigan published specs, our trike has a bigger footprint that a HT1800 Roadsmith trike. This provides a stable and smooth ride.

RSV Hannigan Trike

Overall width 61.5"

Sure the HT1800 engine provides a lot more pep, especially on hills, but the RSV 1300 is a workhorse at higher rpm's. I don't race, and certainly don't mind shifting.
