Will only start in neutral

Will only start when in neutral - - I also tried to start in gear, while pressing on the foot brake. Yes, clutch is pulled.

Did a look on line, and found that could be a problem is the control unit on left handle bar...but they said that cruise control would not work as well -- not my issue, as cruise control works. All functions on this control unit work.

Was also told that some model years were set this way.

Any body know?

Thanks,

On my 2017 Tri Glide it did not affect the Cruise control.

This is a common problem with the left switch pack and I believe the last time I had mine replaced they also had a re-engineered clutch lever to help fix the issue.

I've had mine fixed twice.

my 2016 Tri started in gear. clutch + brake pulled. Have not tried the 2020

My 2015 Freewheeler would start it gear when I first got it, then it wouldn't. When I took it in for service they fixed it. It was something about a switch. The technician told me that HD doesn't want me doing that. I told him I don't do it often but sometimes things happen and I wouldn't have known how if I hadn't read the owner's manual.

It sounds like the clutch switch in the LS switch half is bad. You may try removing the clutch lever and clean the switch with some contact cleaner. After you put the lever back on, pull the clutch in and let it snap back out. This worked for me. Otherwise the LS switch pak will need to be replaced along with a new and improved lever. Good Luck;)

You can test every switch in less than 5 minutes with no tools using this thread.https://www.triketalk.com/forum/thr...e-Control-Diagnostic-Check-No-Tools-Required!

Didn't you post about this problem 5 weeks ago?

My 2015 had same problem. HD has gone through at least 2 versions of the handlebar switch assembly. Make sure they order the right one. My dealer ordered a touring bike switch assembly the first time.
